[SHOT 2020] Historic Concealed Carry Weapons at the NRA Booth
By far the best thing at the SHOT 2020 NRA booth was the small display of historic concealed carry weapons suitably concealed at the rear of the booth, behind the recruitment desks. The interesting historic weapons are drawn from the NRA firearms museums’ collections.
Gun Stickers: The Dangers Of Displaying Your Love Of Firearms
The debate about whether or not to place gun stickers or other firearm-related material on your vehicle is usually a split, between those that choose not to, and those that want to boldly use their First Amendment right. As Americans, we’re used to being able to say whatever we feel, but it’s usually directed towards a person or a group of people we’re talking with. When it comes to displaying gun stickers on our cars, trucks or vans (yes, you can admit to having a minivan to the internet), we don’t get to control who sees that, or what they might do when the opportunity presents itself.

On Thursday, April 26, the California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA), with support from the National Rifle Association, filed an important lawsuit in the U.S.District Court for the Southern District of California challenging the state’s new restrictions on the sale and transfer of ammunition. These restrictions, enacted in 2016 as part of a series of bills and Proposition 63, require all ammunition sales and transfers to be conducted via face-to-face transactions at California licensed firearm dealers or licensed ammunition vendors. And beginning July 1, 2019, all ammunition purchasers will be required to pass a background check before taking delivery of any ammunition.
NRA Whittington Center: Frank Brownell Museum of the Southwest, Robert G. Rowe Ammunition Collection
The NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico has long been established as one of the premier shooting locations within the United States. With everything from skeet, trap ranges to thousand yard and silhouette ranges, the center is truly an all encompassing location for anything shooting related. I honestly wish the center took more of center stage within the training and sporting industries because outside of a few select communities, few shooters have even heard of it.
BREAKING: NRA Disallows 1911s As "Primary Handguns" From Its "Carry Guard" Classes
Released to quite a bit of controversy at the NRA show, the NRA’s Carry Guard program is again the focus of controversy. As listed on the NRA’s Carry Guard website, instructions for prospective students of their “Level 1” program are specifically asked not to bring revolvers or 1911s as “primary firearms” to the classes. This instruction is added as a note to bringing a full-size or compact handgun:

This photo was used for NRA’s Carry Guard. I cannot find it on their website now but take a good look at the photo. What is James Jarrett doing? Why is his index finger on the trigger as he is drawing his pistol?
