USOG, one of the smaller but very interesting YouTube channels, has published a video demonstrating what happens when you accidentally load a 20 gauge shell into a 12 gauge shotgun. Well, nothing will happen until you think there is no round in the chamber or there was [Read More…]
The title image from Dallin Prisbrey will hopefully spur some self-reflection for those that still don’t wear eye protection when shooting. Fortunately, for Dallin, he was not injured to bring us this good reminder that eye protection is a necessary piece of equipment [Read More…]
Shotgun kabooms do not seem to be as common as rifle kabooms. We all know how often .300blk/5.56 kabooms happen and how easily they can happen. Well Vickie Lawrence posted this on her Facebook page. This shotgun had a catastrophic malfunction resulting in a Browning A5 [Read More…]
Here is your daily Public Service Announcement. Don’t shoot .300blk out of an AK chambered in 7.62x39mm. This was my mistake. Fortunately, nothing bad happened. AK Kabooms do not seem to be a commonplace occurrence compared to AR-15 kabooms. There is this infamous [Read More…]
The Internet is full of images of destroyed 5.56/223 AR-15 rifles that were accidentally loaded with a .300 Blackout round. It is not the best idea to try to push a .30 caliber bullet through a .22 caliber bore, is it? Of course, in the majority of cases, these are [Read More…]
This photo was posted in a Facebook gun owners group. No information other than, What happen when reload gone bad… Not sure who owns this but it has been confirmed that the owner is fine. I wonder if the owner loaded a double charge in a S&W500 Magnum [Read More…]
Have you ever thought that 7.62x39mm and .243 Winchester can be a pair of cartridges that are dangerous if mixed? Of course, any cartridge is dangerous if not used in a gun it is chambered for and nobody should do it. However, there are some pairs of cartridges known [Read More…]
God bless competent gunsmiths. Not only do they have to deal with a broad spectrum of weapons in for upgrade and repair, but a wide range of owners as well. Today, on the back end of the curve, we have a negligent KRISS Vector owner who has not once, but twice, [Read More…]

WARNING: Some of the photos in the links embedded in this post are graphic. A man in New Brunswick, Canada, experienced a very unusual kind of out of battery firing with his Savage Axis rifle, in which the firing pin released and struck the primer while the bolt and [Read More…]
The Chiappa Rhino may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it sure is unique. It’s odd look comes from the fact that it fires from the bottom chamber to help reduce felt recoil. Earlier this year fellow TFB writer James Reeves reviewed the Chiappa Rhino 200D [Read More…]
The internet is littered with KABOOM reports where the shooter blindy swears it was not fault or his reloads. It takes a real man to admit he made a mistake. A read emailed me with photos of a KABOOM that happened on 4 July. He admits he should not have been shooting [Read More…]

Serellan writes about a recent squib incident he experienced. A squib is when a bullet does not have enough powder to exit the barrel. It is exceptionally dangerous because if you don’t realize the bullet is stuck in the barrel, and then fire another, you could [Read More…]
It should go without saying to never use ammunition in your firearm that is not written on the side of the firearm… Well, except in cases like .223 and 5.56, where the two are semi-interchangeable, or in the case of .38 and .357, where one is compatible with the [Read More…]
DI is usually identified as the weak link in the AR-15 system when it comes to sustained fully automatic fire. How vulnerable is that system to fully automatic fire? That’s a good question, but fortunately we have a few resources with which to examine it. To [Read More…]
An unfortunate poster over at AR15.com had a dramatic out of battery firing with his 9mm AR pistol this week. While it’s not clear that the ammunition is to blame, it certainly is a possibility. Regardless, this is probably the worst out-of-battery firing I have [Read More…]

This post was written by Dr. Jim and Mary Clary. Under most circumstances, shooters don’t have to worry about chambering the wrong cartridge into the wrong rifle. After all, the cartridges are well marked and we all know which rifle we are shooting on any given day. [Read More…]
