War is Boring is reporting that Iraqi government troops are being outfitted with rifles from neighboring Iran.  The rifles specifically mentioned were the Sayyad, a clone of the Steyr Hs. 50 and a Siavash, a 7.62×51 clone of the US military M40 rifle.

When I wrote about the auction of Saddam Hussein’s Ruger M77 last month I said the estimate sale price of $7,000 – $15,000 was to low. At the low end of that estimate even I was considering bidding on the historic and very symbolistic gun. I contacted Rock Island Auction Company and they told me it sold for $48,875. I am not surprised. I am sure it will end up prominently displayed on the wall of a wealthy person’s man cave.

In 2003 a British Colonel found two British WWI 18 pounder field guns hidden in the desert sand at an Iraqi Army base. The guns were taken back to Britain and BAE restored them back to “service condition”.

Expect newly manufactured AK magazines to be in short supply in the near future. The Army is soliciting bids to purchase 592,825 7.62x39mm AK magazines.

New propaganda photos from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) show insurgents showing off their new rifles. The rifles appear to be chambered in a large anti-material caliber, possibly .50 BMG or 14.5x114mm Russian.

Take a look at the two photo below. The first is the original Steyr HS .50 AM, and the second is the newer M1 version.
