As the legend goes, the court jester in medieval society was the only human being in the King’s Court that could openly criticize, poke fun at, and tease the king without fear of being put on the gallows or worse. Obviously, in today’s hypersensitive world, we’re in an entirely different predicament and one of those is that nearly everyone out there has a joke to tell or something to have a good-hearted chuckle about – even if it’s something we love. That’s why today’s guest is one I’m happy to have on as he’s been a great source for me personally when it comes to being able to take a step back and laugh at the industry that I love – firearms. Natos_Revenge aka Wes is a self-described “internet meme lord” and runs a humorous set of Instagram accounts primarily centered around guns, gun culture, new firearms releases, and a bit of everything else in between. Today Wes and I discuss how memes fit into the world of firearms and how they might even help steer the gun industry towards a better future for all gun owners, even if it ruffles a few feathers along the way.

Despite a cornucopia of overwhelming evidence against why his particular caliber isn’t all that great, he will nevertheless insist. Unlike many videos being posted these days, making fun of Army Drill Sergeants or Marine Corps Drill Instructors, SFC Muse is a former Drill Sergeant herself as seen from the oval Drill Sergeant Identification Badge on the left side of her uniform.

Is the Steyr 1907 Still Relevant?

Earlier this week, Business Insider released an article written by Christian Lowe entitled “ 6 weapons the US military should bring back from the dead“ with a very self-evident, but interesting premise. However, the weapons (all firearms, oddly) that the article outlines are very poor choices, so today I want to talk about why these choices are so poor, and maybe suggest some better alternatives of my own. Let’s take it point by point, quoting his text and following that with my responses:

This is one of those posts I’ve been meaning to get to for a while, but haven’t really felt the urge to write.

Some guns just seem to attract the most ravenous fanboys. These fanatics collaborate and overtime form cult-like cells within the community of firearm enthusiasts. In this video we explore five firearms that have developed a fan base akin to cults, often bordering on outright religious behavior.

Somewhat similar to Polenar Tactical’s Sh!t You See On The Range, SuperSetCA made a video lampooning seven stereotypical shooters one would see at a pistol match like USPSA.

The big name YouTube channels, like Hickok45 and Forgotten Weapons have gotten large followings for a reason, but from time to time I come across smaller channels with just a few followers that really deserve more attention. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been watching one of these channels, called Bloke on the Range. What makes BotR a channel worth looking at is the Bloke himself’s attention to the detail, and good sense of humor. To see what I’m talking about, take a look at two of his videos below: One on the Lee-Enfield and why it’s a faster action than other bolt guns, and another on some of the tall-tales surrounding the M1 Garand:

When one has to operate completely operationally, covering ones rifle shaft is a necessity. Recognizing this, a Amazon seller aptly named “AR-15 Condoms” is offering just that, an AR-15 Condom. Tousted as perfect to avoid STDs (Sh*t, Trash, and Debris), the condoms are purposefully sized to A2 flash hiders (sorry, no magnum sizes). This one is designed to break too, “simply shoot through it(!)”.

If you’ve spent any time at all in military history circles, you will have probably witnessed or been a participant in an argument about what, exactly, an “assault rifle” is, or whether a particular weapon qualifies as one. I, personally, have enjoyed this totally unproductive and thoroughly wasteful argument in one form or another more times than I could possibly keep track of. Although, maybe that says more about my memory than anything else…

With the season of depression, dread, cold, wind, and icy roads upon us, these two videos should help make it bearable because of their humor. Unless you live in Florida, then everything is coming up roses!
