BREAKING: Remington Reintroduces the R51 Pistol
Remington has just informed purchasers of the original R51 pistol that the second model – which aims to fix the issues of the initial production version – is now ready to be shipped. Remington has taken the extra step for initial buyers of the R51 of not releasing the new improved model to the wider market until all original R51 customers get their chance to receive a new pistol first. The letter below was sent out to Remington R51 customers earlier today ( thanks to Russell Duty for posting it to FB):
The German Jager Pistol: Genius Design, PITA Assembly
One of these days, when I have enough money, I’m going to start investing in old firearms (but the new ones are just so darn cool, too…). Tempting us poor commoners again is Ian at Forgotten Weapons, this time with a German compact handgun commonly known as the “Jager” pistol.
Operating Systems 201: Tilting Barrel Locking
Previously, we looked at the most common type of locking mechanism for rifles, but what about handguns? Well, today we’ll be looking at tilting-barrel locking, a method used in virtually every modern locked-breech handgun today.
Redesigned Colt Delta Elite – Who Wants One?

BREAKING: US Army's Modular Handgun System Moves Forward, to Downselect to 3 Competitors
The US Army’s Modular Handgun System is slated to move forward, downselecting in August of this year from a reported 12 submitted proposals to only three, in preparation for the final competition. The program solicitation was released in September with a deadline of the 1st of February, but the deadline for submissions was extended to February 12th. Now, it seems the Army is in review of the proposals and is poised to choose the final three entrants, one of which will become the next US military standard issue pistol. IHS Jane’s reports:
Blackhawk's New Suppressor Line at NRA 2016
At the 2016 National Rifle Association Annual Meeting, Blackhawk! was present showing off their new products, including the new suppressor line we reported on earlier this week. Blackhawk! was also showing off their new improved GI triggers, which we’ll cover later in the article.
The Boberg XR9S Is Now The Bond Arms Bullpup [NRA 2016]
At the 2016 NRA Annual Meeting, Texas gunmaker Bond Arms announced that they would be bringing a new incarnation of the Boberg XR series of pistols to the market. Bond Arms bought Boberg last year, and seems very determined to bring that unique pistol to the market at a lower price and with the high reliability expected of a modern carry gun.
NRA 2016: Awesome American Flag Guns by Nevada Cerakote
Sometimes you see a Cerakote finish so impressive or flat-out awesome you simply cannot pass up the opportunity to share it. Such was the case at this year’s NRA Annual Meeting, which was held in Louisville, Kentucky (next year it’s slotted to take place in Atlanta, Georgia). The guns in question were on display at the VFOB – Veteran’s Family of Brands – group of booths, an organization spearheaded by Axelson Tactical and Snake River Shooting Products.
Army Green SIGs
SIG SAUER and Talo Distributors teamed up to release a series of two-tone guns that are now available. The new guns use an Army Green anodized frame with the standard black Nitron slide and controls.
ARES Defense STEP-22LS Pistol
ARES Defense announced a new .22 LR pistol system called the STEP-22LS. In case you were curious about the name, it stands for Strategic Target Engagement Pistol, Low Signature. The system is offered under the company’s special product division: FightLite. These units mount directly onto the frame of a Ruger 22/45 and Mk-I, -II and -III pistols.
Firearms Food for Thought: Is 10mm Underappreciated?
When you walk into any sizable gun store the options can be a bit overwhelming (or absolutely thrilling, depending on your viewpoint). Firearms in a number of calibers with countless features and options are displayed on the walls, within glass counters, and on the hips of employees. And when you try to engage said employees in conversation, whether with questions or simply to take a look at a specific gun, you’re frequently hit with opinions as varied as the guns on display. If you ask what the best handgun caliber is – “best” being used somewhat loosely – you’re going to get a different answer depending on a few factors. Are you male? Female? Tall? Short? Do you have that tough, capable look or do you appear a little stand-offish, maybe even timid? Sure, appearances can be deceiving, but a lot of assumptions are made based on them. So when the suggested handgun calibers start rolling out, they vary depending on different factors and, of course, opinions. But when those suggestions are made, how often is the 10mm among them? Is the 10mm underappreciated – and underused?
Alien Gear OWB "Cloak Mod" Paddle Holster
Alien Gear, well known for their versatile IWB holsters, has introduced an OWB holster that has some interesting features. Similar to their IWB versions, the “Cloak Mod” paddle holster is very diverse with what kind of polymer covering is affixed to the holster, being able to choose from a wide variety of handgun designs. However, this is only half the retention, the other half being a thin strip of metal that acts as a spring, underneath the actual firearm and towards the body. This is separated from the firearm by a similarly shaped piece of plastic. The two together, allow the spring to press the gun into the correctly shaped outer molder. All these pieces together allow the gun to lock into place while in the holster. The holster itself has a paddle type belt retention backing, that can be switched out with a much more traditional loop style backing that a belt is ran through. Both of these backings are included in the package. The entire holster system is available for $47.88 on their website.
iTarget, train at home with your phone
A computer developer has put together an app, combined with a round that contains a laser (actuated by the firing pin), and a target like contraption that you dry fire with. Once you have calibrated your phone in the cradle that comes with the contraption onto the target that the phone will be sitting in front of, you can dry fire at the target with the laser round in the chamber, and the phone will register the placement of hits on the actual target, from the laser. The dry firing of the firearm will actuate the laser in the dry fire round for a second, while the phone will capture the exact placement of the laser on the target and record it, both recording it once for the single shot, but also recording every other shot taken previously. So you can have a sort of dry fire group as it were. This is almost as if SIRT guns meet phone technology, similar to the German coach we blogged about previously that uses a laser affixed to the end of his competitors air rifles, so he can watch their fundamentals at work. If you are interested in the setup , the individual has an IndieGoGo campaign set up, where there are different options to select as to how to help fund the product. Right now they are at 70 backers, hoping to raise $75,000, which I think might be a bit of a stretch with this sort of product. But the basic buy in package is $89, with a cheaper option at $49 which just gives you the cradle/sled the phone is on. Current calibers are for mainstream handgun calibers, 9mm Luger, .38 ACP (Pretty sure he means SPL) .45 ACP, and .223 REM.
STI Guardian 2011
STI International, Inc. introduced the Guardian 2011 this year. The gun takes the existing Guardian pistol from the 1911 platform and moves it to the 2011 for shooters wanting a little more ammo on tap.
GunTV Now live and on air
Gun TV, the channel that we blogged about last year, has been live and on air for about a whole week right now (you can watch it live online). The channel comes with the slogan, “Live Shopping, Fully Loaded”. If you didn’t catch the earlier post, the channel is a 24/7 live firearms shopping channel, with occasional breaks in selling, to show episodes of interacting with firearms, such as range tips, cleaning, safety etc… For example the hosts will present a certain firearm, show how it works, and then they’ll go out a range, shoot it a few times, then go back into the studio where they will continue to talk about it. In total there are 9 hosts that usually pair up with each other to talk about a certain firearm on screen.
