TFB Armorer's Bench: Savage Model 101 Disassembly
Welcome everyone to the TFB Armorer’s Bench! As mentioned in the little blurb below, this series will focus on a lot of home armorer and gunsmith activities. In this article, I am going to explain how the Savage Model 101 is disassembled but more importantly, caution anyone against doing it. It is nothing like a Single Action Army or Single Six. I realize that is no fun but it should be known right off the bat that there is a step in disassembly that could literally lock up the gun so that it cannot be further disassembled or reassembled. It’s a pretty needless flaw and I will explain why. Without much more jibber jabber, let’s dive into something y’all requested, some Savage Model 101 disassembly!
Two New 10X Monoculars from German Precision Optics USA
German Precision Optics and their USA division, a manufacturer and distributor of high-quality, affordable sporting optics, is proud to introduce two new 10X monoculars to its line of premium optics – the GPO PASSION 10x32ED monocular and the GPOTAC 10x42ED tactical monocular. Both monoculars are a great way to spot targets from afar while reducing the overall weight you’re carrying when compared to a set of comparable binoculars.
TFB Armorer's Bench: I Tried to Silicon Carbide a Pistol Grip
Welcome everyone to the TFB Armorer’s Bench! As mentioned in the little blurb below, this series will focus on a lot of home armorer and gunsmith activities. In this article, I am going to relay my experience working with silicon carbide and the process of applying it to a grip. This is something I have no experience in, have heard of, have seen it done, but never attempted until now. I did some stippling in gunsmithing school and honestly, it was not for me. I can do it but I am not a patient person so the time/steadiness aspect involved in actual stippling is unattractive to me. Silicon carbide-ing grips however presents itself as being not only user-friendly for a beginner but also forgiving. So how’d it go and how’s it feel? Let’s dive right in!

SHOT 2024 came, went, and left us with some interesting and exciting new products on the way and already on store shelves. I had the amazing opportunity to attend (my first SHOT) and it was overwhelming, to say the least. At the same time, it was an absolute blast and a great chance to meet folks. Lots of new stuff left and right but I kept my eyes out for anything new under the TFB Armorer’s Bench umbrella of interest. Let’s dive right in!

This is a process of halting a firearm’s decay and slightly restoring it to what it once was. Just because a gun has turned into a boat anchor does not mean it is too far gone. Let’s dive right into bringing this Marlin A1DL 22LR back to life with some good old conservation.

TFB Armorer's Bench: Installing New Mauser C96 Parts
Welcome everyone to the TFB Armorer’s Bench! As mentioned in the little blurb below, this series will focus on a lot of home armorer and gunsmith activities. In this article, I decided to give my Mauser C96 a bit of maintenance and a fresh change with new Mauser C96 parts since it has been getting a lot of attention lately. For the past few weeks, it has been featured fairly heavily as the hero gun in my Curious Relics series over at our sister site AllOutdoor.com. With that comes the price of hands-on wear and tear at the range. By no means do I mistreat my old school firearms but shooting them and working with them, in general, can be sort of “stressful” on them for lack of a better word. One recommendation I have to anyone out there who is interested in owning and shooting older guns is to make sure you buy spare firing pins and extractors if you can without breaking the bank. Then swap those out with the originals and keep the originals on standby. That is what I did and that is what lies below. Let’s dive right into installing new Mauser C96 parts!
