Even though the popularity of the .45ACP round is waining somewhat, due in large part to the performance of modern 9mm rounds, no one in their right mind would pass up the chance to launch 230 grain bullets quietly. So, with the arrival of my FNX 45 Tactical, I raced to order up a new piston for my SilencerCo Octane 45HD.

Previously, we looked at the most common type of locking mechanism for rifles, but what about handguns? Well, today we’ll be looking at tilting-barrel locking, a method used in virtually every modern locked-breech handgun today.

Dustin Ellerman, Winner of Top Shot Season 3, posted this video of his FNX Tactical. It had been sitting out in the Texas heat, and the polymer grip became pliable. I am not concerned about the grip, but the more important part of the frame, like the slide rails. If the frame is just as pliable as the grip, could the gun tear itself apart?

The US Army released its second draft of the request for proposal (RFP) for its Modular Handgun System earlier this week. The draft gives the designation for whichever handgun is selected as “XM17”. From the draft RFP:

The newest addition to the FNX line of pistols is the .45 acp variant. Since it’s introduction at the end of last year it’s shown to be a very popular pistol.

FNH USA has announced their new FNX-45, the commercialised version of the pistol they developed for the Joint Combat Pistol Program.
