World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2017 in Davos, Switzerland, was busy and the high-altitude resort was as usual highly protected.

At the FLIR party, they brought along some of their latest products. One of them was a quad copter drone fitted with a FLIR thermal camera about the size of a GoPro.

By the year 2020 there are 12 million UAVs and drones expected to be around. Most will be used for fun, but needless to say, some of these will be used for potentially illegal activities and surveillance and possibly terrorism.

Jon Patton of The Gun Collective posted this video. It looks to be drone footage taken at Knob Creek. I was a little concerned about the rounds skipping off in the distance past the explosion. But I was told there is not much in that direction other than some military base owned land that has nothing on it. Knob Creek just alerts them ahead of time that they will be shooting.

It’s been almost one year since I wrote up one of these daily posts about Snake River Shooting Product’s Drone Munition ammunition. Now, thanks to what can only be seen as a fortuitous meeting of products or an alignment of firearms-related stars, we have what just might be the perfect combination: Drone Munition and flying drones to go with it. After all, a year ago I found myself needing to add a disclaimer to the post about the ammunition reminding readers not to actually shoot down drones in a law-breaking type of scenario. Now you can – well, you can shoot these particular drones down, thanks to Gnat Warfare.

This odd contraption had a video released about it in October last year. It is a mechanical device that attaches to the picatinny rails of a firearm, that when aimed at a commercial drone, it sends out a radio pulse in that direction via a sort of electromagnetic wave, that is a signal that activates the out of range signals on many drones. When these signals are activated, the drone thinks it is out of range from the origin location or the control point. It is then programmed to do one of three tasks: Land, hover, or return to the point of origin. The video shows it landing in place, but I’m curious as to what models of drones this would affect. In addition to what sort of blocking mechanism could drone tweekers work into their devices to override this device. I also don’t quite understand how the company is using an AR receiver to mount this device on, and whether they intend to sell it like this. It might just be for the camera, to show how the system works. If anything, I think the system would be effective mounted on an actual shotgun of some sort, so if the drone doesn’t react to the system, then you could still blow it out of the sky if it is above your personal or business property, especially if loaded with birdshot. However the potential for this device in urban areas should be good, if it can be further proven. You also wouldn’t even need an AR upper and lower to use it, I assume a broom handle or similar tube would be just as sufficient.

The Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot is, for me, a yearly pilgrimage to all things automatic. With machine guns roaring every hour, vendors and purveyors of all things ballistic in abundance, and fellow enthusiasts all around, its better than being a Cubs Fan at the World Series (if they ever make it).

According to the Associated Free Press, the teenager who built the infamous “flying gun” video (that we even posted here about) has been arrested and released on a $20,000 bond. The arrest is on unrelated charges to the drone.

Inventive, yes.  Dangerous, yes.  Fun, I’ll bet!  Seriously though, should we be concerned about amateur assassin drones?  How long until we have Action Pistol competitions that are done by drone?

Went to a local match that my friends have been telling me to go for the past year. Finally requested the day off to attend the Clariton Sportsman Club’s Action Rifle. It is so much more than just an Action Rifle Match. It is more of a multi gun match. You use pistol, shotgun and rifle. However it is not a true 3-gun match as certain stages are specifically one out of the three guns.

A guy on reddit received an unsolicited package from UPS. It is a $400k unmanned aerial vehicle. It appears to by part 1 of 2 packages. He is missing the propulsion and the imaging portions of the drone.
