Learning to Run a Bolt-Action For Real – Chris Baker Goes Over Getting Started in Practical Rifle Shooting

When it comes to my shooting hobbies, sometimes I feel like a bit of a black sheep. I am neither a race gun driver, nor a benchrest shooter. I don’t blast IDPA targets and Texas stars with an STI DVC Open, or break 200 rounds per minute cyclic smoking brown cardboard with my braked JP Enterprises AR-15. I don’t compete in F-Class, and I don’t even do Cowboy Action (cue a complete lack of surprise from our readers).

Ultimatum Precision, a high-end bolt action manufacturer, located in Abbotsford, BC, Canada and Washington State USA, has released news of their new bolt action design, the U300. B&T SPR300 Setup Video

The B&T SPR300 is a compact bolt action rifle that folds up into a soft case the size of a briefcase. I was surprised to see how short the actual barrel is on the rifle. Edward O. posted an article about it back in March. In this video, you will see what comes with the gun and how it is setup. I thought the dedicated brass catcher was a nice touch.

Iraqveteran8888 and the KGB Mosin Nagant

The Mosin Nagant can trace its roots back to 1891, and it’s a rifle with a group of seriously dedicated fans. One model in particular whose history has been described as “murky” “cloudy” and “shrouded in mystery” by various Mosin aficionados is the 1891/59 model. The 91/59 is a carbine version of the 91/30, and the debate surrounding them is whether or not they were manufactured in Bulgaria for use by the Soviets for an impending invasion by we, the Westerners. There is certainly evidence to support the carbine’s Bulgarian roots, and now Eric of Iraqveteran8888 fame has taken it on in his new YouTube video, “The KGB Mosin Nagant.”

Browning AB3 Rifle

Browning has introduced the AB3 to their rifle at the 2014 SHOT Show.  The AB3 is described by Browning as a “value-packaged” rifle.  Despite its lower price point the AB3 is designed to be a contender for accuracy, features, style, and comfort.  This is not what I would consider a “bargain” rifle in the meaning of lower quality parts and materials for the entry level shooter.  Instead, I would place the AB3 in the category of many competitors‘ mid-range rifle selections; such as the Remington 783, the Savage Model 111, or the Mossberg ATR line.
