John Moses Browning gifted upon the world a large variety of firearms gifts. From the still-in-service 1911 handgun, to the BAR, and the venerable M2 or “Ma-Duece” machine gun, his designs have persisted and even thrived over the last century. Calibers he created are still being chambered and refined today with an excellent example being the various Barrett “anti-material” rifles chambered in .50 Browning Machine Gun.

Most shooters will recognize that a .50 BMG can reach out and touch something. In fact, four of the five longest confirmed sniper kills in the world were recorded with a .50 BMG, one of which was launched from a Ma-Duece by none other than Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock.

While the current record for the longest “confirmed” sniper kill is over 2,700 yards (just over 1.5) miles, with a .338 Lapua Magnum round, for nearly 35 years the record stood not with a traditional centerfire rifle, but with a modified M2 Browning Heavy Machine Gun, affectionately known as the “Ma Duece”

In yet another “ what can I add a piece of brass to, to make it cool” product,” The Mighty Pen Company has expanded its brass oriented product line to include .50 cal razors. Offered in two versions: a double-edge straight razor, and a Gillette Mach 3 adapter, the .50 Caliber BMG is ready for ones Big Manly Goatee.

Okay, its more of a mauling, but that does not mean its not good entertainment and unlike the upcoming Mayweather “finale” boxing match, you dont have to pay to watch this one-sided affair. Glock’s wonder polymer does not hold up well to a .50 slug.

While today ceramic, composite, and multi-layer armor has made most of the small to medium-arms obsolete for engaging tanks, in the early 1930s the beloved Browning M2 was being set up as a tank-killing rifle. Equipped with a Prismatic sight, the shoulder-fired (albeit ground supported) fifty-cal was the ideal long-range tank-busting weapon.

Royal Nonesuch, a home-made firearms YouTuber has continued to sink to lower lows of safety (although some may argue increases in ingenuity) through his various homemade firearms projects. The latest project show is a .50 Cal firing through a pipe.

I saw this over at Snowflakes in Hell. An armor piercing incendiary .50 BMG round is fired from an Armalite AR-50 rifle at 18 hard drives.

Extreme Shock Ammunition are producing a .50 BMG projectile that can penetrate 1″ of meal and yet will not over penetrate soft tissue. The Fragmenting High Velocity (FHVL) round is made up of a propriety tungsten powder/flake compound.

Daniel spotted a very interesting auction at gunbroker.com. The rifle on sale was a Boys Anti- Tank rifle modified by TRW-SYSTEMS GROUP and rechambered for .50 BMG. It was intended to be used for .50 BMG flechette rounds.

The U.S. Army and Special Operations Command are stepping up efforts to procure a lighter, modernized .50-caliber machine gun more easily transported than the standard 85-pound M2.
