Wilson Combat and renowned firearms expert Paul Howe have been cooperating for quite a long time and the results of their collaboration are always great firearms such as the Paul Howe Tactical 5.56 Carbine or Paul Howe Signature Glock Pistols. The latest firearm they built together is the Paul Howe 6.5 Creedmoor rifle which Wilson Combat describes as “all-purpose medium to long-range tactical rifle with an effective terminal range surpassing 1000 yards“.

I don’t get pumped up about many new releases anymore, but when I received the shipping notification for the SIG Sauer 716i TREAD AR-10 rifle last night, I may have gotten a little giddy. You see, I’ve never owned a .308 AR-10, so if SIG’s 716i TREAD lives up to its listed specifications, quality and accuracy, I’ll be putting my money down on the table. We’ve reviewed several of the TREAD “budget” AR-15 rifles and pistols over the years, most recently Hop (TFBTV) and Rusty (TFB) have put the shorter models through their paces. But this is SIG’s first entry into the .308 DI TREAD lineup. I’ll get a review posted up ASAP. Last year, I wrote an article about what handgun I would choose if I could only own one handgun and had to get rid of everything else. Typically, this will be a conversation I have with like-minded shooters at dinner and then we will debate the rest of dinner about our choices. Deciding on a rifle was a bit tougher for me than the handgun just because there are so many options depending on your needs. Let’s dive into the one rifle I’d want if I could only have one for the rest of my life.

NEMO recoil reduction bolt carrier group and buffer system, the heart of unbelievably soft recoiling NEMO rifles, is now available as a separate retrofit kit for AR-10 pattern rifles. By installing the  NEMO recoil reduction kit into your 308 gas gun, you should be able to faster recover from each shot, easier spot the impacts and do faster followup shots.

James Reeves checks out the POF booth at SHOT to see one of the lightest .308 ARs ever made. Per Hrachya H. of TFB, POF has made an “ingenious .308 receiver design that manages to fit a .308 magazine into AR-15 lower receiver dimensions. This year, they added another rifle and a pistol to the family of weapons built on this receiver concept. One of the goals of designing the new Rogue series of firearms was to create the lightest 308 guns without sacrificing the rigidity of the weapon. With an overall weight of 5.9 lbs for the Rogue rifle (16.5″ barrel) and 5.6 lbs of the Rogue pistol (12.5″ barrel), these are really handy guns. When you shoulder them, it’s hard to believe that you are holding a 308 AR.”

Daniel Defense has announced that the GRIP-N-RIP charging handle that was previously seen in new DD5 rifle models, is now available separately. The new ambidextrous charging handle has two versions – for AR-15 and AR-10 pattern weapons. This accessory is packed with all the features modern shooters demand from an AR charging handle.

Over the last few years, I’ve been flooded with the same question about what 308 magazine is best for AR platforms. In a perfect world, I could sum this article up in about two seconds by saying buy Knights Armament SR-25 magazines. The problem with the Knights SR-25 magazine is the staggering price of $95.79 per magazine. Typically I like to have at least 10 magazines to run through guns so I’m not constantly loading at the range.

A couple of weeks ago at DSEI 2019, in London, I had the chance to take a look at Colt Canada’s latest offering, a 7.62x51mm semi-automatic precision rifle developed for the Canadian Army. The C20 Semi-Automatic Sniper Weapon builds on the C7/8 family of 5.56x45mm rifles currently in Canadian service following extensive testing.

The National Rifle League ( NRL) recently expanded their match coverage across the United States.  I was happy to learn that my own state of Iowa was included in that expansion and it was within a reasonable drive for me to attend as a spectator.  The Iowa match, named the Vortex Rampage, took place in Mt. Auburn, Iowa at the Sure Shot Range and Guns shop.

Introduced at SHOT Show 2019, ODIN Works adjustable AR buffers are now available for purchase. These buffers come with a set of weights and allow to relatively quickly and easily adjust the overall weight by installing a proper combination of steel, aluminum or tungsten weights.

FIMS Firearms has published on their social media pages a photo of the pre-production prototype of their new bullpup rifle. Not long ago, MEAN LLC, introduced a California Compliant Magazine Loader for the AR-15; The 10-round bullet loading device allows California gunners to reload a fixed magazine without the need to break down the firearm. The Firearm Blog featured it last year and you can read more here –   Yesterday, Mean Arms announced the release of a similar product for the AR-10, the MA10-Loader. Combining either of these loaders with the MA-Lock allows Cali folks yet another solution to the ever changing gun laws and the parameters thereof.
