Using an off the shelf K31 Swiss rifle (albeit, with hand-loads), Ernie Jimenez reaches out and touches a pink bison target at 2240 yards. Now, there was only four hits in over 80 shots, but the fact that most shots were very near the target is a testament to the marksman.

The German government has claimed that the G36 service rifle suffers from severe accuracy problems after being heated up by as little as 4 magazines on full auto. We set out to try and see for ourselves how much the rifle’s POI shifts and how much the group size increases after some heavy use!

It’s not so unusual to hear of sub-MOA accuracy or better from a well-tuned rifle. Bringing the accuracy of a rifle below half-MOA, though, is a challenge to the gunsmith and shooter alike, and every increment below that is an increasingly difficult challenge. Sub-1/3 MOA from a rifle is definitely an achievement for the gunsmith, shooter, and handloader each.

UPDATED (7/21/2014) Celebrating the US Independence Day in style, a shooter has set a new world record for 100 meter accuracy. The spread? 1.27 mm (.05 inches)! The shots were recorded at the 5th European Benchrest Competition in Volmerange, France on July 4th, 2014.
