Coming to America: The GM6 Lynx .50-cal Reciprocating Bullpup
Over the years, TFB has brought you some occasional tidbits about the GM6 Lynx. In 2018 it featured in a “Picture of the Day” post, in 2016 Nick brought you some cool factory tour content, and in 2014 he gave you a cool video of this behemoth in action. This unusual rifle is almost undeniably cool, but there have been two primary problems with it so far. For one, access: the Lynx is made in Hungary by a company called SERO International – and they don’t appear to have a US-based direct subsidiary or sister company to provide this .50 to potential buyers in the states. The second issue has been cost. On the rare occasion you could find one, you were looking at a price tag probably somewhere in the neighborhood of $15,000. Not exactly budget-friendly for most shooters!
[SHOT 2020] Dillon Aero Introduces 503D Tri-Barrel 50BMG
Dillon Aero, makers of the M134D Minigun that is currently in service with the US Military, has come out with a new force multiplier. The Dillon Aero 503D is a tri-barrel 50-caliber rotary machinegun. It is entirely configurable for use aboard helicopters, boats, humvees, or armored vehicles. In other words, it’s a really, really big gun.
Inside The AK-50 – For When You want .50 BMG and Reliability
John Moses Browning gifted upon the world a large variety of firearms gifts. From the still-in-service 1911 handgun, to the BAR, and the venerable M2 or “Ma-Duece” machine gun, his designs have persisted and even thrived over the last century. Calibers he created are still being chambered and refined today with an excellent example being the various Barrett “anti-material” rifles chambered in .50 Browning Machine Gun.
How Far will a .50 Kill? – .50 S&W Edition
Most shooters will recognize that a .50 BMG can reach out and touch something. In fact, four of the five longest confirmed sniper kills in the world were recorded with a .50 BMG, one of which was launched from a Ma-Duece by none other than Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock.
For 35 Years, The Longest Sniper Kill Was With a Ma-Duece
While the current record for the longest “confirmed” sniper kill is over 2,700 yards (just over 1.5) miles, with a .338 Lapua Magnum round, for nearly 35 years the record stood not with a traditional centerfire rifle, but with a modified M2 Browning Heavy Machine Gun, affectionately known as the “Ma Duece”
.50 Cal Razors… From The Mighty Pen Company
In yet another “ what can I add a piece of brass to, to make it cool” product,” The Mighty Pen Company has expanded its brass oriented product line to include .50 cal razors. Offered in two versions: a double-edge straight razor, and a Gillette Mach 3 adapter, the .50 Caliber BMG is ready for ones Big Manly Goatee.
Safety Harbor Firearms SHTF .50 BMG AR Upper
While the Serbu break-action .50 cal rifle ( in collaboration with Royal Nonesuch) is putting .50 BMG sub $1000, I think Safety Harbor Firearms has taken the right approach with their SHTF .50 BMG upper receivers for an AR-15.
Not All Penetration Data Is Created Equal
The subject of armor penetration previously was largely confined to the realm of big bore rifles or cannons intended to tackle tanks and other kinds of armored vehicles, but as the popularity of steel and composite body armor increases, it has become more and more relevant to the subject of small arms. It may be tempting to pull contextless data from different sources, and present them as being comparable, but in most cases this is a mistake. Unfortunately, quoting armor penetration numbers from two different countries or organizations is not a good way to compare the capabilities of rounds against one another, as I will explain.
Pneumatic Hunting Shotgun From Air Venturi
Airgun use is on the rise in the hunting world, and now there’s a new offering from Air Venturi. The company is known for producing airguns, but this particular airgun is something more unique, because it’s not a new rifle, it’s a pneumatic .50 cal shotgun. It’s called the Wing Shot, and it was designed with hunting in mind.
Royal Nonesuch Proves He's An Idiot (Again)
Royal Nonesuch, a home-made firearms YouTuber has continued to sink to lower lows of safety (although some may argue increases in ingenuity) through his various homemade firearms projects. The latest project show is a .50 Cal firing through a pipe.
Object of Desire: Factory Cut-Away Ma-Duece
(Gawking) Now that my jaw has been picked up from the floor, I cannot help but appreciate the photos of a cut-away M2 .50 Machine Gun. Photographed by RangeHot.com, the M2 in question is a factory spliced receiver used to train armorers of the .50 BMG.
POTD: PGM Hecate II .50 BMG anti-materiel rifle
At my request the famous South American gun writer Ronaldo Olive kindly sent me this photo of himself with a PGM Hécate II .50 BMG anti-materiel rifle. This particular rifle is in service with the SpecOps Battalion (Batalhão Tonelero) of Brazil’s Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais (Marine Corps). He had the opportunity to test the rifle for an upcoming article that will be published in the July/August 2015 Edition of Harris Publications’ Special Weapons for Military and Police. The photo was taken by André Olive, his son.
Weekend Photo: Two Fifties (.50 AE and a .500 S&W)
Eddie sent us these great photos of his S&W revolver chambered in .500 S&W and his Magnum Research Desert Eagle chambered in .50 Action Express. The muzzle energy of a .500 S&W is about twice that of the .50 AE.
Weekend Photos: Tactical Puppy (Dog and Gun #2)
Alex C. took this photo of his friend’s puppy with his H&K MP5K and Barrett .50 cal. Alex told me he is considering on naming his next dog Heckler. I suggested calling it Koch instead but he said there was no way he could run around his nice neighborhood shouting Koch ( which sounds very similar to “cock”).
The photo shoot exhausted the puppy …
