HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Ruger Super Sniper
Welcome everyone to the 51st edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or does it only have Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.
TFB Review: KRISS Vector 22 – SDP & CRB
Earlier this year, KRISS USA announced that they would be coming out with their Vector 22. They came out with a carbine (CRB) and pistol (SDP) version of their popular KRISS Vector line of firearms but these are chambered in .22LR. KRISS USA sent their Vector 22 CRB and SDP-SB in for review.
KRISS USA To Release .22LR Vector Rifle And Pistol
The time has come. A .22LR trainer for the KRISS Vector is finally upon us. This is a project that KRISS USA had been working on for some time now. It may be due in part to their Defiance DMK22 rimfire rifle and pistol. Whatever the reason is, you can now get a KRISS .22LR Vector.
Sneak Peek: Lehigh Defense Develops .22LR Ammo with Solid XD Bullets
Lehigh Defense shared a couple of images on their social media pages showing XD (Xtreme Defense) bullets that they are developing for the .22 Long Rifle cartridge. The everyone’s favorite plinking round is primarily available with bare lead and copper or polymer coated projectiles. Probably the only exception of .22LR ammo currently available with non-lead projectiles is CCI Copper-22 which bullets are made of compressed polymer and copper mixture. So if the Lehigh Defense .22 LR XD ammo appears on the shelves, it will most likely be the only .22LR ammo with all-copper solid bullets.
TFB Exclusive: GLOCK 44 .22LR – Rimfire Perfection
Rimfire is life – a recurring mantra on The Firearm Blog. And when an apex predator firearms manufacturer with a deep portfolio of world class defensive pistols changes course to focus on the .22LR cartridge, our beliefs become even more solidified. Today we get introduced to the GLOCK 44 .22LR pistol.
The Rimfire Report: My Top 5 Favorite Plinking Targets
Plinking is fun. That’s all there is to it. For all the training, competing, hunting and drilling we do, shooting “just for fun” is something that we probably don’t do often enough. Paper targets are great for honing your accuracy, exposing bad habits or sighting in a new scope. But nothing quite compares to shooting a reactive target – especially with a rimfire round like .22LR or . 17HMR. Today on the Rimfire Report I’m going to list out 5 of my all-time favorite plinking targets.
TFB LIGHTNING REVIEW: Colt Woodsman, Having A Blast With The Past
Most of our reviews here at TFB involve more modern products that are still available from manufacturers. However, after borrowing a family member’s Colt Woodsman, I was pleasantly surprised with it. Enough so, that I thought I’d report on it in case readers find one for a great price. The Colt Woodsman hasn’t been produced since 1977, but during its 62 years in production, there are examples to be had. Just over six decades of production isn’t a record, but it certainly says something was done right by today’s standards.
New MDT LSS-RF Gen2 Chassis System for .22LR Rifles
The Canadian company Modular Driven Technologies continues to push out new chassis systems for our pleasure.
TFB FIELD STRIP: The Colt Woodsman & Huntsman .22LR Pistols
The Colt Woodsman is a semi-automatic .22LR pistol with a ten round detachable box magazine. Notably, it has a heel magazine release. The Colt Woodsman was manufactured from 1915 to the mid-1970’s. The Huntsman was introduced in 1955, and was previously named the Challenger. The name change was due to a dispute between Colt and Browning over the Challenger name, of which Browning already had a .22 pistol named as such. The Colt Woodsman and Huntsman pistols have the same disassembly process. If you’ve played with enough .22 pistols, the disassembly directions can vary widely compared to larger caliber semi-auto pistols. Let’s disassemble the Colt Woodsman on this edition of TFB’s Field Strip series.
The Rimfire Report: What's Up With the Precision Rimfire Competition?
Welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! Many of you may be familiar with some of the more popular gun competitions: Steel Challenge, IDPA, USPSA, and the 3 Gun style competitions. All these competitions offer recreational shooters a chance to hone their skills and test them in a competitive environment. The big problem for most of these shooting sports is the upfront cost to compete. The Precision Rimfire Competition aims to dispel the harsh costs of other competitions and bring shooters of all ages and skill levels into the competitive world.
BRAND NEW KelTec P17 – 17 Rounds, 13 Ounces, Threaded Barrel, $199
Innovative firearms manufacturer KelTec has just announced their latest release that is both feature rich as well as affordable. The KelTec P17 pistol holds 16+1 rounds of .22LR, weighs less than 14 ounces, features a threaded barrel and has an MSRP of $199. The P17 package also adds a light/laser accessory rail, three magazines and signature KelTec styling. Although it’s not mentioned directly, the barrel threads appear to be partially covered by the slide, requiring the use of a thread adapter or extender similar to a PPK/S if you plan on running a suppressor – which I always recommend.
TFB Review: Kriss Defiance DMK22 LVOA
Kriss USA is well known for their Kriss Vector. A few years ago they started another sister company called Defiance. This company designs and develops accessories for their Vectors as well as starting a line of .22lr rimfire rifles called the DMK22. We got a chance to review their DMK22 LVOA as well as their standard regular DMK22.
TFB FIELD STRIP: Beretta U22 Neos Pistol
This edition of the TFB Field Strip series will cover the Beretta U22 Neos pistol. The disassembly for the Neos is quite a deviation from the standard semi-auto pistol and is quite unique in that regard. The Neos is chambered in .22 LR and has been quite handy for dispatching nuisance animals, teaching marksmanship to newbies, or just plinking on the cheap.
TFB Review: American Tactical GSG-16
The GSG-16 is the latest version of American Tactical Inc’s popular GSG-5 .22LR plinker. It is based off the same internals as a GSG-5 but has a new exterior housing to update the GSG into the GSG-16.
New Pew Pew: Rex Silentium COV 22 – Covert 22LR Mini Suppressor
Small pistols and small silencers go together like cold beer and salty peanuts. But, at the risk of stating the obvious, reducing the volume of a suppressor also decreases overall noise reduction – unless you have some way to seal off the end cap after the bullet exits the bore. Using rubber wipes is a decades-old design process that has seen a resurgence in silencer development in the last few years. Rex Silentium has just introduced the Covert 22LR mini suppressor for rimfire suppressors. The best part is that it currently retails for $125.
