Wheelgun Wednesday: Ruger SP101 Review
On this edition of TFB’s Wheelgun Wednesday, we’ll take a look at my former everyday carry piece, the Ruger SP101. The .357 Magnum SP101 was introduced a few years after the release of its big brother, the Ruger GP100 in the later half of the 1980s, and has since been chambered for .22LR, .327 Federal Magnum, .38 Special, and 9mm. The Ruger SP101 revolver’s prefix “SP” is generally referred to as “Special Purpose,” compared to the GP100’s “General Purpose,” but doesn’t appear in any current literature on Ruger’s website or advertisements. The Ruger SP101 revolver also saw service with the French police. Let’s take a look at this controversial concealed carry weapon, the Ruger SP101.
HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Skull Clad or Just Bad?
Welcome everyone to the 152nd edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.
Shooting a S&W Model 61 in Slow Motion
I recently picked up a S&W Model 61 thanks to my friend Paul. I did not know much about the pistol other than “it is the Taxi Driver sliding pistol”. I was intrigued by the lower bore axis and slide design. Of course, I had to film it in slow motion.
Wheelgun Wednesday: Highly Customized Smith & Wesson 617 in France
Welcome to TFB’s Wheelgun Wednesday, where we explore the world of revolvers, past, present, and occasionally of the future. This week, we’ll take a look at an expertly customized Smith & Wesson 617, by a French gunsmith, Cédric, also known as cedric_armurier on Instagram. All of Cédric’s posts have been a joy to see, and I’m grateful he’s permitted me to share this project with you. He works on many types of guns, 1911s, CZs, and S&W Victory pistols, to name a few, but I’ve particularly enjoyed his work on S&W wheelguns. Let’s take a look at his work on the Smith & Wesson 617 chambered in .22LR.

Volker Precision recently announced an upcoming trigger housing for Ruger 10/22 rifles (and Charger pistols) that includes an updated magazine well profile that accepts KelTec CP33 magazines. Volker Precision’s owner, Chris, has stated that their VP33 Trigger Housing will be up for preorder in two weeks, but there’s no mention yet on pricing. Current 10/22 capacity options from Ruger are, 1, 5, 10, 15, and 25 round magazines, whereas the new VP33 configuration will utilize the 33 round capacity from the quad-stack Keltec magazines. Volker Precision is also launching their own chassis system for the 10/22.

Was this Rare .22LR Pistol Used by CIA Agents?
In this PACKED episode of TFBTV, James Reeves reviews a svelte little .22LR that was rumored to have been carried by members of the intelligence community in decades past – the Walther TPH. The TPH is like a shrunken down PPK, with a 6+round capacity of .22LR. This is one high-end, rare-ish pistol that was discontinued years ago, but it still carries quite a story with it – including…carrying with condoms? Plus, James includes a mini-review of the Rugged Mustang, a new .22 can from Rugged that you can pick up from @SilencerShop.
[SHOT 2022] WEE1 Tactical JR-15 Rifle
Shown for the first time at SHOT Show 2022 was WEE1 Tactical’s JR-15 rifle. It’s designed to be a perfect scaled-down replica of the AR platform with youth shooters in mind. I had a chance to sit down with Eric from WEE1 Tactical to talk about the new AR-pattern 22lr platform.
HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Practical or Tacticool Charter Arms Explorer?
Welcome everyone to the 119th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal? Radical Firearms RF-22 Rimfire Rifle
TacSol and Volquarsten have some competition with Radical Firearms’ relatively new RF-22. Designed as an out-of-the-box accurized semiauto rimfire, the RF-22 features a Picatinny rail integrated with the receiver, a machined bolt and a match-grade threaded barrel with muzzle brake. I’m not certain why a .22LR needs a muzzle brake, but I guess it looks cool while you wait for your silencer to get its stamp of approval.
HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Ranch Hand or Can't Stand this Ruger 22 Charger?
Welcome everyone to the 113th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB.
