TFB Review: Meprolight M22 Self-Illuminated Reflex Sight

The Meprolight M22 is a unique reflex sight, in part for what it lacks: a battery. Unlike more common red dot sights, which use a battery to power an LED, the M22 uses the sun and radiation to illuminate the reticle. So how well does that work? Let’s find out.

Holosun Announces DRS-NV Will Be Available At Dealers Soon

Holosun has grown to be an industry leader in optics in recent years. Many of their red dots and reflex sights have become some of the most popular options on the market, following on from more humble reputational beginnings. They have also dabbled in the night vision game, with their product catalog including a selection of infrared laser and illuminator units. Around SHOT Show 2023, Holosun revealed that they were working on getting deeper into the low-light shooting market by virtue of a pair of upcoming digital prototype optics, one thermal and one standard NV. Now a year later, the night vision model is ready and heading to market soon. In a January 11th Instagram post, Holosun announced that their DRS-NV is slated to ship to dealers within a matter of weeks. Check out the text of their post copied below for details.

Trijicon Officially Announces the New RMR HD and RCR Red Dots

You’ve all probably seen it leaked on social media by now but today is the day – Trijicon has officially announced the introduction of the new larger and updated RMR HD, and the new enclosed RMR footprint RCR or Ruggedized Close Reflex sight. I’ve had the opportunity to use both of the new optics, first at an official Trijicon media event hosted several months back, and now for the past month or so as I’ve had both optics in hand. Put simply, both of the new reflex sights from Trijicon carry over some of the same improvements to the RMR line including better windage and elevation adjustment clicks (more tactile and audible), as well as greatly improved brightness adjustment buttons that feel much better. However, the similarities end there and both optics feature a drastic departure from the established RMR line.

Israel's Meprolight Mepro M21 Dual Illumination Reflex Sight

The Meprolight Mepro M21 reflex sight has an extensive history with foreign armed forces that spans several decades now. It was first introduced in the early 2000s and was quickly adopted by its country of origin as a standard-issue optical rifle sight. Originally developed to meet the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) requirements, the M21 underwent rigorous testing and evaluation to ensure its suitability for Israel’s military applications. The IDF needed a robust reflex sight that could withstand demanding combat conditions while providing rapid and reliable target acquisition capabilities without the need for extra components like batteries. Since its introduction, the M21 has been in service for almost two decades and was used in conflicts by nearly all combat units in the IDF.

No Batteries No Problem – Ruger's New ReadyDot Micro Reflex Optic

The latest entry into the micro-red dot category of carry optics has just hit the scene, this time from Ruger. Ruger is proud to announce their new ReadyDot Micro Reflex Optic. The ReadyDot will use the Shield RMSc footprint which is common to the micro-compact 9mm category of firearms. What’s really interesting and unique about the Ruger offering is that it features no windage or elevation adjustments, a 15 MOA dot, and also uses no battery to power its dot. Instead, the Ruger ReadyDot relies on a fiber optic system similar to some prism optics to generate a visible dot that auto-adjusts based on ambient lighting.

New Line of Handgun Red Dot Sight Adaptor Plates from C&H Precision Weapons

One of the biggest pet peeves of mine when it comes to optics-equipped firearms is the sheer amount of different mounting footprint options on the market. Although it can be largely distilled down into maybe 4 or 5 different core patterns that all optics use, it’s still extremely frustrating to have to limit yourself artificially based on the type of pistol or optic you have. C&H Precision Weapons has just announced the introduction of a new full line of adaptor plates for select pistols, and pistol-mounted red dots.
