My article Precision Rifle Series: Gas Gun vs Bolt Action – Which is better? created quite a stir, which of course was part of the intention. In the next competition, I had to eat my own words, as I did an all time low ever. The compensator on my JP Rifles unturned itself, and it took a while before I discovered why my hits were going everywhere.

At SHOT Show 2023 Aero Precision unveiled their new Solus bolt action. It was announced last year but now they have more concrete information and specs for their new entry in the precision bolt gun market.

In a surprising turn of events,  Colt announced the introduction of a bolt-action precision rifle. Since CZ’s acquisition of Colt in 2021, we have wondered in what directions we’d see Colt move and now it seems that Colt will be leveraging some of CZ’s existing expertise in precision bolt action rifle design. The CBX Precision Rifle utilises a bolt design from the CZ 600 series of rifles, pairing it with a new aluminum chassis system developed with MDT which has a 6 o’clock ACRA rail and 3 and 9 o’clock M-LOK slots.

Suppressors for Precision Rifle Series (PRS) shooting is something I’m looking into at the moment, and conveniently Maxim Defense has just released such a solution. Typically suppressors lessen the muzzle flash, noise and recoil while making the gun a little more accurate. Maxim’s new PRS suppressors have a 3-piece MonoKore design with a 1.75” outer diameter, and are made out of grade-5 titanium and 7075-T6 aluminum. The finish is Cerakote / Type-III hard coat anodizing. It’s available for 6.5 and .308 calibers and attaches with a 5/8-24 thread pitch. The suppressor adds 7.25″ to the overall length of the gun, and weighs 10.8 oz. The MSRP of Maxim Defense PRS suppressors is $695.

Shooting Precision Rifle Competitions with an airgun? Really? Yes, with FX Airguns‘ new FX Panthera there is now a dedicated, purpose-built air rifle on the market designed to compete and win Precision Rifle Competitions. According to the press release, the FX Panthera feels and shoots like a precision 22LR, with “laser-sharp precision and accuracy“.

PRS rifles are some of the heaviest in the long-range business, probably save for benchrest rifles. PRS shooters are always looking for ways to improve the weight and balance of their firearms for more optimal results and the folks over Luth-AR have just introduced their new Sidekick Balance Weight for the MBA-1 or MBA-2 buttstock. The Sidekick Balance Weight adds an additional 14.5-oz to the rear of the rifle which could help in offsetting heavier or longer barrels which should result in a more evenly balanced platform.

If you’re looking for the ultimate in precision shooting, Swarovski and Kahles have just announced the introduction of the K624i scope paired with the highly precise SKMR4 reticle. The new optic/reticle combination was announced to the public on October 1st and it is great news for Precision Rifle Series production class shooters as the optic qualifies for this specific class.

Those interested in Precision Rifle Shooting will be happy to hear that Vortex Optics has begun a new show recently with the introduction of their “Go Long-Range” series. The show focuses on Mark and Jimmy as they embark on their first Precision Rifle Series Match where they learn how to tune their gear, their training and also features tips and tricks from pro shooters like Nick Laufenberg and Dave Preston who help Mark and Jimmy shore up their PRS game.

I’ve been following the Precision Rifle Series (PRS) for quite some time now and I still have yet to take the plunge into becoming a competitor myself. At a recent media event, I had the pleasure of meeting Troy Livesay – a professional PRS shooter who attended the event to give us all a good rundown of a few new Bushnell optics ( XRS3 and DMR3) as well as give us a few of his personal tips for improving your performance at any PRS match. Troy gave us these 5 tips in the hope that it would help spring PRS shooters (like myself) and bring new shooters to the sport.

With the introduction of new price thresholds for the Precision Rifle Series (PRS) specifically in regards to the Production Class, shooters have been struggling to get every advantage they can out of their rigs without crossing the $2,500 limit. MPA just introduced the Production Class-minded MPA BA PMR Pro Rifle II which will retail for $2,499.99 and will still include a ton of features that give shooters many advantages during competition.

Precision Rifle Series (PRS) can best be described as a mixture between long-range and precision rifle shooting and practical shooting. TFB recently reported about the plans for a Precision Rifle World Championships in 2022, and hopefully, it will happen.

According to Bergara, their new Premier Competition Rifle is their most accurate and highest-performing production class PRS style rifle that exists. All you need is to pair it with your optic, zero it and the rifle is competition-ready right out of the box. This rifle could be quite nice for the upcoming  Precision Rifle World Championships 2022. If you have used the Arca Swiss rail before, you know it’s great for easy and fast adjustments. Of course, you’ll find it on a rifle like this, focused on PRS-style shooting.

The MasterPiece Arms (MPA) Facebook page has recently announced a continuance of a special partnership with The Precision Rifle Series. For the 2021 Season, the 5th year in a row, MPA has been announced as the official chassis for the Precision Rifle Series. This partnership solidifies the support MPA has for the Series as a whole and will host both the MPA Spring Shootout and the MPA Summer Shootout – two of the most popular matches during the season. Finally, MPA will provide sponsorship for several Pro matches that are set to take place throughout the year.

Daniel Defense is a firearms manufacturer that needs no introduction. Since the company’s humble beginnings making small parts in the early 2000s, to their David-and-Goliath style successes in providing rail systems to SOCOM shortly after that, to the introduction of their first complete firearm (the DDM4, later referred to as the V1) in 2009, Daniel Defense has become one of the gun world’s household names. You would be hard-pressed to find a legitimate firearms enthusiast today who wasn’t familiar with the brand. Their AR-series rifles are highly sought after and well-regarded by many. Similarly, Daniel Defense’s recent foray into precision bolt guns, with the original Delta 5’s announcement at SHOT Show 2019, was received with excitement.
