With an increasing number of shooters covering a vast variety of ages and demographics, the engineers over at Meprolight have looked at the advantages that their FT Bullseye rear sight offered shooters and decided to improve the experience with a front sight to match. The new Mepro FT Bullseye front sight is intended to give shooters a better focus on the front sight to improve target acquisition, speed, and accuracy.

Ghost ring sights are something I’ve always been curious about but never actually had the chance to mess around with – that is until recently when AMERIGLO sent me a pair of Glock Ghost Ring Sights that were compatible with the Glock 17/19 platform. I picked these particular sights as I don’t see them quite often and I was honestly morbidly curious if they offered any significant advantages or disadvantages over traditional three-dot or notch and post sights. For reference, I picked a pair of AMERIGLO GL-325 Ghost Ring Sights and used them on a Glock 19 Gen 4 pistol.

Idaho-based company OuterImpact is best known for producing optics mounts, particularly their M.R.A., or Modular RedDot Adapter. Typically, in order for a micro red dot sight to be installed on a handgun, the pistol’s slide needs to include an optics cut. Although an increasing number of manufacturers are offering these as either optional or standard from the factory, there are still plenty of handguns on the market without this option. While you can have a qualified gunsmith modify your non-optics-ready slide to accommodate a red dot, some gun owners may not wish to make such a permanent modification or to pay for it. In addition, these styles of modifications may only permit one kind of optic footprint to be used, or they may require the use of an additional mounting plate featuring the proper screw pattern for a given red dot.

I always want to see the cool new tech that comes out of SHOT Show, and I think that’s the case for most of us. One thing that’s often overlooked is the basics. Iron sights have been around since the beginning of firearms history, and I don’t think that’s going to change. XS Sights is continuing to put out new models of pistol sights for those of us who still don’t run a dot on our handgun. The latest to be released is the XS Minimalist Night Sights.

XS Sights is well known for making pistol, shotgun and rifle sights, as well as mounts for optics and backup sights.  Their latest set of pistol sights, the RadioActive Material, or RAM Night Sights, focuses on providing a sight set designed to work both day and night.  The RAM Night Sights utilize a three-dot system of tritium inserts for shooting at night or in low light, while the front sight incorporates a brightly colored tritium housing for shooting in the daytime.  The image below illustrates how this system works in different lighting conditions.

I am always glad to see a  well established manufacturer continue to refine their products as well as move forward with new ones.  From what I saw XS Sights is doing just that.  The big dot sight is certainly nothing new.  I have been using one is some form or another for almost 10 years now.  Upon stopping in at the XS Sights booth it was instantly apparent they had made some improvements since the days mine were installed.  Some of those improvements were visible, while others were at work behind the scenes.

This cool little accessory that we reported about from SHOT Show 2018 is now available for purchase. The Switchsight is a set of folding iron sights designed for handguns. Here is an interesting customization. Offset iron sights for when shooting your handgun sideways. The gun appears to be a Hi-Point hydrodipped in hundred dollar bills. Now while many of us may jump to the conclusion that this is for the gangster to more accurately shoot their gun sideways, I think it could be actually beneficial. In the odd happenstance where one might have to shoot their gun sideways through a narrow port they might have a better chance of aiming with these sideways pistol sights than turning one’s head 90 degrees to aim with the regular sights. Having options is nice.

Advantage Tactical Sights (ATS) introduced a pair of handgun products for 2016. These new items are the Glock Dark Diamond Sight and the Firefly Generation II.

Battlehook Sights are solving two issues with this genius idea. The front and rear sights each have a great function. I have fiber optic sights on my competition pistol. I break or lose my fiber optics sights often. The Battlehook Sight distributed by Henning Group will solve that problem. The front sight encloses the fiber optic tube inside its housing if you will. No more breaking or sliding out. But it is the rear sight function that is innovative in a tactical situation.
