Hard-sided pistol and rifle cases are expensive but can be great investments for hauling your rifles and pistols back and forth to the range, your favorite hunting spot, or anywhere across the globe that your shooting adventures might take you. The hungriest beast of them all on this blog is our Photo Of The Day. It consumes hundreds of images every month, and it has been doing so for over 8 years. Today we have the SABR, short for Sniper Assaulter Battle Rifle, made by LWRC International.

Most everyone here will be familiar with Pelican Products and their popular line of durable hard cases that have been used by the military, law enforcement, and civilians alike to protect our valuable gear. Pelican has just unveiled their largest Air Case to date with the introduction of the Pelican Air 1646 model case which features a roomy 6,800 cubic inches of useable spaces for any type of gear that needs protection from shock and the elements.

When thinking about hard and soft rifle cases, it’s easy to just pick one without really looking at what works best. For years I picked one style of case and used it regardless of whether or not it was the best choice for me. Over the last few months, I’ve been asked several times how I pick what case to use and why. I figured this would be a perfect time to sit down and explain the uses of both styles so let’s jump into it.

Back in 2016 I stumbled upon EXPLORER Cases at SHOT and have stayed in contact with them ever since. I did a review of a case then as well as a padded gun case and backpack kit (which I think must have been a prototype for this kit). When this new case (and kit) came available they offered to send me one as a long-term demo, which I of course accepted.

Transport of our hardware and toys always involves a compromise. We end up spending hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars on a rifle, or optics, or electronics, only to put it into a cheap nylon case. Or perhaps we buy a budget plastic box from Amazon (which it what I did with my GoPro cameras and accessories).

The big green is announcing a partnership with Pelican Products for branded cases and other accessories. Unfortunately at the time of the press release, there are no photos of examples.  But they are slated for release by Q4 this year.  It would appear that the cases will also feature pre-cut foam for specific products.

Contrary to some people’s speculation the R-51 is neither dead in the water or being repaired. Yes you heard that right there will be no repairs. Think replacement!
