Hornady’s 2023 product announcements continue with the Square-Lok organization system. It uses a system of vertical panels to mount various shelves or hooks. Users can customize the placement of these accessories to organize their guns and gear to their liking.

When it comes to firearms and gear organization, I am an extremely neat freak. If I had unlimited cash and space each and every one of my guns would have its own weapons locker full of all its related accessories, ammunition, and kit. Sagewood Gear has released a much less expensive idea with their Clip Hangers which fit right into inexpensive pegboard as opposed to more costly Slatwall or store wall kits.

Boxer Tactical, known for their President’s awesome Amidst the Noise videos, and simple American innovation, is at it again with yet another simple solution to a problem plaguing shooters everyone – gear organization.

Having been working on creating what is to me the “ultimate general purpose carbine,” I stumbled across a small company named Cloud Defensive as I was looking for the best method to mount and employ a Surefire flashlight. Their LCS is a nifty little solution to the infamous wire management problem that plagues weapons when mounting up lights, lasers, etc. (For those interested, check that out here).

In the first two parts of this article on a new long range infantry rifle paradigm, we painted a picture of what sort of weapons would be needed to maximize the infantry’s long-range capability, in theory allowing them to achieve “overmatch” versus enemy infantry armed with existing .22 and .30 caliber weapons. We created estimates for both the cost and weight of the infantry rifle, and we also examined the problem of training soldiers to maximize their capabilities with the new longer-ranged weapons.

I am sure I mirror many Modern Sporting Rifle enthusiasts in my zeal to maintain organization. After years of builds parts can scatter to the organizational wind. Putting together new builds was becoming frustrating, especially with the variety of MSR parts to review. Handguards, pistol grips, and other items were donned and doffed with regularity. Trying to keep track of it all was a nightmare, especially with my building location off-site from my home. One missing part, and a return trip was required.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy the “range bags” that are just now a dime a dozen. The single-strap “standard pattern” (my label, not industry’s) has performed and will continue to perform well. Unfortunately, when loaded down for the range, it becomes a real bear to lug around. The single strap just does not distribute weight well when loaded for a 3-gun match with 100+ shells, 200+ rounds of 9mm, extra pouches, tools, food, etc, etc.

Jumping past the blue-print mats, TekMat has introduced their 3D Cutaway Gun Cleaning Mats. Rather than an exploded view, the new 3D mats show the firearm assembled with all the parts called out individually, including magazines.
