New Mexico Declares Ban On Carrying Firearms, Is Immediately Sued
New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham just took the unprecedented step of banning open and concealed carry in parts of the state under the guise of a public health order. “But doesn’t that fly directly in the face of the 2022 Supreme Court case New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen?” you might ask. Well yes, it very plainly does. Let’s unpack where this order came from and where it is going to go.
On Open Carry: Detroit Citizen has Pistol Stolen Right out of His Holster
I recently wrote about how it is taking Detroit citizens almost a year to get an appointment with the Wayne County Clerk to apply for their concealed pistol license. This has understandably forced many legally armed citizens to open carry as the laws permit this. However, just recently a 53-year-old man had his pistol stolen off of him while he was in a gas station while he was open carrying.
South Carolina Bill May Allow Residents to Open Carry
Introduced to the South Carolina House on January 12th, 2021, a bill proposal may grant the citizens of South Carolina to openly carry handguns in a public setting. South Carolina is one of the last few remaining states that outright bans the open carrying of handguns in public places. The South Carolina Bill – House Bill 3094 “Open Carry With Training” – would allow a person who has obtained a concealed weapons permit to open carry a handgun. The bill as presented on the South Carolina Statehouse is copied below.
Concealed Carry Corner: A Critical Look At Open Carrying
Last week, I went into the gas station to pick up some orange juice and a stick of gum. While I was waiting in line to check out, there was a gentleman in front of me who was exercising his right to open carry. I think it’s awesome when people want to exercise their right to carry in public spaces but this gentleman had a Hi-Point C9 in an Uncle Mike’s holster strapped on a leather belt.
Constitutional Carry Now In Effect In Oklahoma
“Constitutional Carry” or “Permitless Carry” became legal in Oklahoma this past weekend. The law was signed by Governor Kevin Stitt in February of this year. Oklahoma is now the 16th state that has some form of Constitutional Carry provided for its citizens. For those unaware, Constitutional Carry allows people over 21 years of age to carry a loaded firearm on their person without a government issued permit. Those that have convictions for felonies and domestic violence offenses are still prohibited from carrying firearms.
Concealed Carry Corner: Concealed Carry At Home
In this edition of Concealed Carry Corner, we’re discussing carrying on your person, while at home. Of all places that you should be able to feel comfortable, secure and safe, it may not actually be that safe after all.
TFB Review: Bravo Concealment OWB BCA 3.0 Gun Holster
Who got a holster for Christmas this year? Who wanted a holster for Christmas? Even though I have a closet and gun safe overflowing with holsters for all of my firearms I constantly have this grass is greener mentality to holsters. Always searching and trying to find one that is a hair better than the last one. As we journey into colder winter months, we can all do a little more OWB (Outside-the-Waistband) carrying since we are presumably donning heavy coats. As a result, I found myself revisiting a company we have tried before with Bravo Concealment. In this TFB Review, we take a look at the NEW Bravo Concealment OWB BCA 3.0 Gun Holster, specifically for a Glock 19, to see how it measures up to the competition!
Concealed Carry Corner: Pros & Cons of Consistent Open Carry
In this segment of Concealed Open Carry Corner, we are going to dive down the rabbit hole of open carry. Many states actually allow for the open carry of firearms in public, but very few individuals do it because of social stigmas. I, personally, have been carrying since I turned 21. Still being a young guy at the age of 31 now, for 10 years I have been a concealed carry advocate… until recently. I have not had any life-changing event happen to me (fortunately), but where I live and work I have felt a growing urge to open carry. I want to feel protected doing bank deposits for my day job, moving firearms for work (I manage my family’s gun shop), and just generally have my mind at ease when we all hear so much negativity on the news.
Concealed Carry Corner: Concealment Defined
Many talk about concealed carry and assume it is all about getting a license. Some take it a step further and attempt to prevent printing, but there is far more to concealment than not printing. Some even attempt to achieve the “instafamous” sub-second draw. While a quick draw can be a useful skill, is it really the end goal? Concealment can also not be simply bought by selecting a good holster.
Concealed Carry Statistics Across the US presented by Springfield Armory
When it comes to concealed carry, whether you are brand new to the idea or a seasoned veteran with a desk drawer of 30 holsters, it is always good to be in the know.
POTD: Handgun Holster Fail
Found this photo with zero context. I am curious what the user was thinking when they holstered the grip rather than the gun? The gun looks odd and I think it is a CO2 bb gun. Matthew says it is a Crossman 1088.
POTD: Deliberate Or Honest Mistake?
Saw this on @TheIGMilitia on Instagram. Some comments say that the person in the brown pants is Miami Dade PD. More importantly is the woman holding the yellow mug. Some think she may be prior Marines due to the folded cuff of the T-shirt. But the bigger question is: why is her holster upside down? I hope the person who photographed this mentioned it to her. At first I thought that maybe she put her belt on upside down? But how do you not notice your holster and gun are upside down? It looks like the belt is looped through the belt loops of the pants so it is not a simple problem of putting on a belt over the pants upside down. If that were the case then the holster would be on her left side. This is a right hand draw holster oriented upside down. It would be a deliberate act to thread the belt through the pants and into the holster. Is there anyone from Miami Dade PD that can shed some light on this mystery? Was there an intervention and someone corrected this woman’s mistake?
POTD: How Not To Carry
There are so many ways to carry a handgun. Many people like carrying behind the back as it is very comfortable. Some carry outside the waistband and some carry inside. As we all know there are a plethora of holsters to fit any and all requirements one needs. However this guy decided to forego any holster and shoved it in his belt, outside his pants.
NEW: Comp-Tac Holsters Expanding Flatline Lineup
In the market for a new holster? Comp-Tac Victory Gear is now offering more options for their Flatline and Flatline Thumb Break holster lines. The company mentions the onset of fall as their motivation for increasing on-the-waistband (OWB) options. After all, thanks to colder weather gun owners are granted the ability to carry OWB since they’re also wearing thicker layers.
