As is common here in the US for our military service rifle, the AR tends to get all the love when it comes to removable optics rails for the “old” style receivers. With easily replaced handguards, various carry handle mounts, and eventually the “A3” upper receiver which has come to the standard for uppers, the AR has a lot of options for mounting optics.

Color me shocked. A company has been able to combine fatherhood, tactical nylon, and lifestyle marketing. TIER1-D (their stylization, not a typo) is a company started by an avid outdoor enthusiast “… dedicated to bringing the best in gear and apparel to the modern dad.”

Developed by police officers from a large metropolitan area, the new Triggersafe is a simple device to make your AR-15 safer when its intended to be completely safe. In short, the Triggersafe is a device that completely covers the trigger of a standard forged AR-15 lower receiver. Further, the Triggersafe impedes a standard safety selector from being manipulated. The company notes it is compatible with a variety of trigger guards and selectors, but does not state explicitly what exactly is compatible outside the Magpul trigger guards.

In a “I really didn’t expect anyone to do this… ever” moment, High Tower Armory has announced that they will be releasing a new bullpup conversion kit for the Hi Point carbine. Released October 19th on their Facebook page (I had to make sure it was not April 1st), it looks like High Tower Armory is indeed serious about the bullpup chassis.

Wilson Combat, known for their 1911’s and a growing portfolio of high-end products, has announced their 1911 extractors are going even higher end performance wise. Both the Series 70 and Series 80 1911 extractors are now machined from S7 tool steel bar stock.

JP Enterprises, known for the LMOS (Low Mass Operating System) and SCS (Silent Capture Spring) has announced the fusion of the two systems into the VMOS (Variable Mass Operating System). In short, the VMOS is a bolt-carrier group that combines the basic shape of the LMOS with the adjustable weight system of the LMOS on a single bolt carrier.

Presented at the 2016 International San Francisco Smart Gun Symposium (ironic, considering the city shuttered its last gun shop in 2015), then 18-year-old Kai Kloepfer presented a new handgun design that incorporates a fingerprint reader. Young Mr. Kloepfer is sponsored by angel investor Ron Conway, who’s Smart Tech Challenges Foundation is spending $1.5 million for the development of “firearms safety technology.” Kloepfer is one of about 15 start-ups that Conway is sponsoring.

Black Arch Holsters (formerly SHTF Gear LLC), known for their concealed carry offerings, has announced the release of their latest holster for the new Ruger LCP II sub-compact handgun. The hew holster is from their ACE-1 family, Generation 2. The new holster is designed for inside the waistband carry.

Atibal, known for their inexpensive optics with a growing reputation, has announced the release of their latest optic, the MROC – Modern Rifle Optic Component. The MROC is a 3×32 prismatic optic designed to feature a large field of view, which can be uncommon with magnified optics. Per Atibal, the field of view is a large 37.7 feet at 100 yards or 7.2 degrees.

Tyrant Designs, known for their CNC machined aluminum grips, has announced the upcoming release of their LWP grip. The LWP, or “Lightweight Pro” grip is designed for ultra-light applications. The new grip was conceptualized to be lighter than even polymer offerings while not sacrificing strength.*

AMTAC Suppressors, known for their over-the-barrel designs, has announced the release of their latest suppressor, the Hornet. The Hornet is specifically designed for pistol caliber carbines in the 9mm and .357 SIG variety, coming standard with 1/2 x 36 TPI threading. An adapter is available for 13.5 x 1 LH threads for the Sig MPX.

It has often been a question of mine why the various supposedly low-profile red-dots have always typically required suppressor-height sights for co-witnessing. The whole point of the low-profile set-up and slide-melding is to reduce the height of the dot, but few companies truly take advantage of it.

Debuted earlier this year at SHOTShow, 5.11 Tactical’s HEXGRID system is getting closer to production. Spotted at Modern Day Marine by SoldierSystems, the pre-production armor carrier is shaping up into production-ready format.

Whiskey Two Four, a company primarily known for paintball oriented products, has released a nifty belt adapter that makes the duty belt, even more duty-ready. The new system includes two components which when mated together use hook and loop to attach a molle-compatible webbing section to a duty belt.

The Ruger Precision Rifle platform continues to get better and better. With its relatively easy barrel swap, compatibility with various modern sporting rifle handguards, AR-style safety, folding stock, etc, etc. etc, the platform has been making serious waves within the precision shooting world.
