Mystery Ranch is one of the biggest names in outdoor backpacks. They make a wide range of hiking, hunting, wildfire, and military bags. Recently I found myself in need of a dedicated backpack to haul my writing gear to the range. The 2-Day Assault Pack looked like a good option so I picked one up. This review will cover my experiences using it on and off the range over the course of the last year.

In this episode of TFBTV, JamesReeves is at the Mystery Ranch booth to discuss their new Blackjack 35 2-day assault pack. According to Mystery Ranch:

I am 100% in agreement with James Reeves that there are times when Fanny Pack Carry is the superior option.  For some, it may have more to do with warm weather/light clothing considerations, such as at the beach or the gym, but for me, it has more to do with when I’m wearing voluminous layers of clothing to guard against nasty weather. It’s hard to draw a handgun from my duck hunting coat, or from under longer rain gear.  To that point, when I was headed up to southeast Alaska to do a lot of fishing and hiking in bear territory, I decided to get a new fanny pack in which to carry my Glock 20.  One of the best options for a handgun that big was the Mystery Ranch Forager.

Designed by Greg Thompson and Made in the USA by Benchmade. This is not a knife I would normally buy, but I did. Rather surprised, I liked it so much I bought another. Took a few photos of them and here’s the result.

Mystery Ranch announced a number of new packs for the coming year. These include backpacks, a new binocular case and a new camo pattern.
