Say it with a flash! TFB’s Photo Of The Day is on a mission to collect high-quality photos from the world of firearms, and what’s better than a meter-long muzzle flash? Above you see Tech. Sgt. Jason Cangemi, an armorer for the 103rd Rescue Squadron, 106th Rescue Wing as he test fires an M4 carbine during a multi-day training course at the firing range on April 9, 2015.

Maxim Defense is coming out with a tiny little PDW dubbed the PDX. At Range Day, The Firearm Blog had a shooting bay all to ourselves. This allowed for vendors to book an appointment and bring their latest and greatest to us for a more intimate look at their products. Maxim’s appointment was later in the afternoon and they were running low on 7.62×39 so they brought along a 5.56x45mm variant of the PDX.

NorthPolar Photography posted these photos on Facebook. He shot an RPD in sub-zero temperatures and in low light. Looks like a lot of fun.

This is a Public Service Announcement. With the onset of New Year’s Celebration this coming weekend, TFB would like to remind everyone to go and watch fireworks. There is no need to join the celebration with guns being fired up into the air. By all means, if you want to ring in the new year safely and fire weapons horizontally into a berm or other safe direction then knock yourselves out with fun. Be safe and have a prosperous New Year.

I met up with my friend Joel Y. to check out some custom loads he made in .357 magnum. Unfortunately the chronograph he borrowed was not consistent and had too many errors so we just ended up playing with a couple .357 magnum guns. A compensated Coonan, a 6″ barreled Coonan and his 3″ barreled S&W 60 Pro.

I recently got a chance to shoot my friend Joel’s .357 Coonan while we were staffing a local night match. I saw him test fire it last year and actually forgot about it. So this year I asked him to bring it back out so I could try it and film the RING OF FIRE!!

My friend Calvin asked to see a comparison of muzzle flash on an AK47. He was curious how much a factory Slant Brake could mitigate flash if at all compared to a bare muzzle. I took him up on it and said I could film it. I took my RAS47 out to my local range. The range does not have any real time limit since it is nestled in a cul de sac of mountains and no one lives near by. The results were surprising.

I recently purchased a used Glock 17C for a reasonable price. I got it just as a novelty and possibly for Action Match shooting. Since I have been playing around with PCC and Open Division handguns with compensators I wanted to see what the Glock 17C could do. I was surprised how well the ports worked. I tried it with factory 115 gr and 9mm major load and did not notice a significant difference in compensation.

Dead Air Armament was founded by seasoned silencer pro Mike Pappas and designer Todd Magee with one goal in mind: building the best specialized products in the industry. It’s a lofty goal, for sure, but in founding Dead Air Armament and setting to work designing and manufacturing suppressors – among other things – they’ve made their mark on the gun world.
