POTD: The Woox Walnut Gladiatore Grip & Forend Kit

There’s something about those short shotguns, don’t you agree? In this  Photo Of The Day, we’re here to admire the Mossberg Shockwave pump shotgun, with some American walnut from Woox. I’ve had my eyes on Woox for a while, and it’s almost like I want to purchase a suitable firearm just to fit those nice, wooden parts on it.

Crimson Trace Lasersaddle LS-250: First Impressions

This past summer I had a chance to visit Montana to ride Honda off-road vehicles and play with some firearms for our sister site, ATV.com. While I wrote about that experience here, I also had a chance to play with a prototype laser site from Crimson Trace that I wasn’t allowed to write about until now – the Crimson Trace Lasersaddle LS-250 for Mossberg Shockwave receivers.

[GAOS 2018] Mossberg Shockwaves, Shotguns, And MVP New For 2018

At SHOT Show 2018, Mossberg made the headlines with their 590M double stack mag fed shotgun. I missed their new line up but got to see them at the Great American Outdoor Show. Mossberg has one of the largest booths at GAOS. They brought out their entire lineup and the 590M was clearly the star of the show. In the wings I noticed some guns that I did not see before.

[SHOT 2018] GG&G give the Shockwave and Tac-14 some SERIOUS aftermarket support

New from GG&G this year was a bunch of aftermarket support accessories to optimize both the Remington Tac14 and Mossberg Shockwave shotguns.  New sidesaddles, light mounts, sling mounts, rails, offset rails, and studs were available for each gun.  The QD sling mount for the Tac14 and Shockwave is a great addition, as it allows a single point sling to mount in a far more natural place at the. side of the receiver by replacing one of the trigger pins.  The light mounts are also very easy to install underneath the magazine end cap.  All of these accessories help transform these range toys into actually useable defensive arms.

Black Aces Tactical Quad Rail and Side Shell Holder for Mossberg Shockwave

Black Aces Tactical makes an upgrade kit for the  Mossberg 590 Shockwave shotgun … I mean “firearm”. It consists of a quad rail with a full-length top Picatinny rail and short front rail sections on 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions. The second part of this set is the side shell holder. It also comes with a magazine spike which seems to be a limited time offer.

POTD: Tale Of Two Shotguns

Ok well technically one is a shotgun and the other is simply a firearm. But they both shoot shotgun shells. Both are fun to shoot but I have to give a bit of a nod to the KSG. The bullpup configuration keeps the OAL short. So short it almost feels like it should be NFA but it isn’t. Top that off with an impressive capacity. The downside is reloading the KSG and for some, the ejected shells hit them in the wrist. The Mossberg Shockwave is also a lot of fun but with a standard capacity of only 5+1 rounds, it loses to the KSG. Neither one comes threaded for chokes, but the KSG does have an adapter you can buy. You could easily send the Mossberg barrel out to be threaded by a competent gun smith. The KSG obviously comes standard with a top rail and bottom rail. You could swap out the ribbed foregrip for a Magpul handguard and add rails to the Mossberg. The top of the Shockwave receiver is drilled and tapped if you felt like adding an optic.

OPINION: Remington 870 TAC-14 is BETTER than the Mossberg 590 Shockwave

At first glance, it is extremely difficult to tell the Remington 870 apart from the Mossberg 590 Shockwave. If the two were laid side-by-side on a gun bench, it would be tough to tell which is which from a distance. Their qualities and features overlap quite a bit, but IN MY OPINION, the Remington 870 TAC-14 holds the edge over the Mossberg 590 Shockwave (just slightly).
