Firearms that once belonged to the famous American exhibition shooter Annie Oakley have always been some of the most sought after items highly valued by collectors. And Little Miss Sure Shot’s  Stevens Model 44 rifle that was consigned to May 2020 Morphy Extraordinary, Sporting, & Collector Firearms auction, is no exception. This engraved and gold plated single-shot rifle was sold for $528,900 becoming the most expensive lot sold during the May 2020 Morphy auction.

Continuing our series of articles dedicated to covering the major American firearm auctions, today we’ll take a look at some of the most interesting, rare and unusual guns seen in the online catalog of the upcoming October 2019 Morphy Extraordinary, Sporting & Collector Firearms Auction. As usual, the Morphy auction catalog includes dozens of such firearms and the list you’ll find below is merely what this author picked from the plethora of unique pieces of firearms engineering and history consigned to the auction. The list goes in no particular order and the names of the lots are linked to corresponding Morphy Auction pages where you can find more detailed descriptions as well as more and higher resolution images. At the end of each lot description, you can see the estimated price range that the auction house predicts each of the lots to be sold at.

While browsing the catalog of the upcoming September 2019 Morphy Field & Range Firearms Auction catalog, I came across this rather weird old percussion pistol. According to the description of the lot, this pistol was used as a sailboat race starter. I suppose the large bell-shaped cup attached to the muzzle is designed to amplify the report or guide it to a certain direction so that everyone will hear the start of the race. The April 2019 Morphy Extraordinary, Sporting, & Collector Firearms auction has ended and the list of prices realized has been published by the auction house. As always, we examined the list and found the five most expensive firearms sold during this auction. Our list goes in a price ascendancy order. The catalog of Morphy Extraordinary, Sporting, & Collector Firearms April auction is now available online. Just like in the case of many previous auction-related TFB articles, we browsed the catalog to see what interesting, rare and unusual firearms are consigned. The Morphy catalog is full of such firearms. If I was to choose every rare gun, I’d probably end up talking about each and every lot seen there.

Continuing our series of articles about the most expensive firearms  sold in the major US auctions, today we’ll take a look at the five most expensive lots sold in the Morphy Firearms, Militaria, & Sporting Auction that was held from October 30 to November 02, 2018.

While browsing the Morphy Auctions catalog for writing one of our recently published articles about anti-tank weapons, I came across this quite an interesting vintage gadget – Captain Bogardus glass ball thrower. This device represents an early trap shooting target thrower except instead of clay pigeons it throws glass balls.

At the end of the past year, we reported about the merger of James D. Julia auction house with Morphy Auctions. The former became the division of the latter. That’s why the online catalogs of their firearm auctions are now hosted on Morphy Auctions website.
