A long-standing US Army tradition is the issuing of General Officer sidearms. Previous pistols issued to senior army officers have included the Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless pistols and the Colt M15 General Officer’s Pistol. The US Air Force Begins Fielding 125,000 SIG Sauer M18 Pistols

The US Air Force has announced that it has begun fielding the first of approximately 125,000 new SIG Sauer M18 Modular Handgun System 9x19mm pistols. The Air Force announced that it has opted for the more compact M18 over the M17, selected by the US Army, in May 2018. The very first pistols began reaching Air Force Security Forces in March 2019.

SIG Sauer Offering Authentic Surplus US Army M17 MHS Pistols

Surplus M17 pistols? Already? You’re probably thinking ‘but they’ve only just adopted the Modular Handgun System.’ You’re right but the reason these M17s are now available as surplus is because the US Army has decided to transition away from the original Coyote Tan controls to pistols with black finished controls (slide release, safety, trigger, etc). So the Army basically swapped the early pistols for new production guns, giving SIG Sauer a number of original surplus pistols to offer onto the market.

POTD: Spartan Brigade Get their M17s

The roll out of the US Army’s new Modular Handgun System continues, with the U.S. Army’s Pacific Command tweeting on 16 September, that soldiers stationed in Alaska and members of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Div (or Spartan Brigade) received their new M17s. The soldiers took part in a “train the trainer” course to help familiarise their units with the new side arm.

Chief of Staff of Air Force Receives Custom Serial Numbered SIG Sauer M18

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) recently hosted General David L. Goldfein, a four-star general, who is the current Chief of Staff of the Air Force where he recieved his new M18 Modular Handgun System sidearm. The AFOSI also hosted General Stephen W. Wilson, the current Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force, at Joint Base Andrews where they joined a training and proficiency training session with the new M18 pistol and other weapons used by the AFOSI.

SIG SAUER Modular Handgun System Receives Full-Material Release from US Army

We at TFB have been closely following the progress of the Modular Handgun System since the US Military launched its search for a new service pistol. Since the SIG Sauer P320’s selection back in January 2017, the pistol has undergone continuing evaluation and a steadily increasing roll-out to US combat troops and has begun to be fielded by other branches including the US Marine Corps and US Air Force.

The Marines Go Compact – USMC Begin Issuing MHS M18

The US Marine Corps has confirmed to TFB that the Corps will be procuring only the M18 compact variant of the Modular Handgun System. Back in March 2018, the USMC confirmed that they would be procuring the SIG Sauer Modular Handgun System and while it was stated that 35,000 MHS pistols would be purchased they did not stipulate which of the two pistols they would be issuing. The Marine Corps followed the USAF, who also recently began fielding the new M18.

US Air Force Begins Issuing M18 Pistol

The US Air Force has begun to issue the new M18 Modular Handgun System to Air Force Security Forces. The new compact M18 will replace both the Beretta M9 and the older SIG Sauer M11A1 pistols with Air Force security personnel.

New Report & Testing Confirms SIG Sauer's Modular Handgun System is Reliable

The US Army selected SIG Sauer’s Modular Handgun System entry back in 2017 and since then the full-size sidearm has begun to reach active units. Some controversy regarding reliability initially surrounded the XM17 but a recent report from the  Director of Operational Testing and Evaluation confirms these issues have now been addressed.

Army In Search of Laser/Light Module for Modular Handgun

SIG Sauer Announce Limited Edition Commemorative M17

As we reported last week SIG Sauer are about to release versions of their government-adopted M17 ato the civilian market, however, only one of these will be identical to the US Ary’s Modular Handgun spec, complete with manual safety. Just 5,000 of these authentically government-marked M17s will be made available. An additional M17 Collectors Case will also be offered separately.
