Kimber have announced a range of improvements across their Micro 9 range of subcompact carry pistols. The news features include a mini compensator (the MC), new finishes and optics ready slides. The Micro 9 range has also expanded with several 3.15in RAPIDE pistols. Finally, Kimber have also introduced a new 7-round ‘Tac-Mag’ for the standard Micro 9 range.

The new Kimber Micro 9 ESV is one of the latest additions to Kimber’s Micro 9 line of pistols. Like other Micro 9’s, the ESV has a steel slide and aluminum frame, and is an upscaled version of their Micro chambered in .380. The unique features of the ESV are:

At range day this year, I took the opportunity to shoot some new handguns from Kimber.  First up was their new K6s DASA 3″ and 2″ revolver.  As the name intimates, this revolver has an exposed hammer that can be manually cocked for single action, as well as a 3″ barrel.  Trigger pull was very smooth with no perceptible stacking in double action mode (9.5-10.5lbs).  The single action trigger broke crisply at between 3.25-4.25lbs when the hammer was manually cocked.  I have to give Kimber some plaudits on the sights.  Thought they are just white 3-dot, the size and serrations make them easy to pick up very quickly in daylight conditions.  I fired 24 rounds of .38 and .357 though the DASA, and didn’t miss once.  Recoil is really not bad with the .357s.  The K6s 3″ has the same size grip as the hammerless K6s 3″, but in a lighter, red walnut color.

It looks like Kimber is going to break the ice for gun companies by beginning to announce their new firearms for 2019 which we shall surely see at SHOT Show in January! First up is 3 new offerings through their Micro 9 line-up of concealed carry, hammer-fire pistols. The KHX line which was just introduced in 2018 through their full-frame 1911 models will now be applied to the Micro 9. A new series entirely is the ESV which will make its debut in the Micro 9 pistol as well.

Kimber will be rolling out another limited edition pistol for consumers this fall. This time around it is a nod to one of their most requested and favorite limited edition variants: the Texas Edition! You will for a short time be able to get a Kimber Micro 9 Texas Edition 9mm.

I will make no apologies for my love of polymer, striker-fired sub compact carry pistols. For the most part they are inexpensive, reliable, lightweight and accurate. Plastic pistols also can lack soul, character and style. Accepting to review the Kimber Micro 9 Crimson Trace pistol was a conscious choice to both push me out of my comfort zone and to return to a steel framed platform with classic lines – in a size that can be easily concealed by any shooter.

This may not come as a surprise to many. Kimber ushered in the Micro 9 in 2016 to growing popularity, and in 2017 they will discontinue the Solo.

Buried in their new product announcement for the year, Kimber has announced the release of their Micro 9 9mm sub-compact handgun. The new Micro 9 is the big brother to Kimbers existing Micro .380 series and the slightly-larger-brother to Kimber’s Solo series.
