Photo Of The Day – Defensive Combat Shooting from the Panzergrenadier Battalion 122. We look at sergeant candidates in the Panzergrenadier Battalion 122, during their training in group defense. They are using the Maschinengewehr MG5 (HK121) and the standard-issue HK G36. 7,62 NATO and 5,56 NATO in a fine combination, but the G36 is soon in for a replacement.  According to Wikipedia, the unit cost for the MG5 is 16,000 Euros.

At first glimpse it may look like the German MG5, but we’re in fact looking at the brand new variant of the Heckler & Koch MG4, the MG4 A3 version.

Heckler & Koch, Germany, have been renaming their weapon systems. It’s been going on for a while and I’ve been trying to decipher this ever since I saw some of the new HK firearms at Enforce Tac 2017, Germany.

According to a recent document published by the German popular parliament (Bundestag), the German government has authorized a relaxation of the accuracy requirements for the new MG5 machine gun.
