Meopta, a well-known European scope manufacturer, released a new budget-friendly scope line called the MeoSport R. This 3-15×50 scope has a second focal plane, illuminated reticle. It also features side parallax adjustment that goes from 10 yards (yes, airgunners and rimfire shooters, that number is correct) to infinity.

In my previous TFB reviews of Meopta optics, I state that the Czech-made Meopta is the best keep secret in the mid-to-high end Euro optics. Meopta had been making optics for military and sportsmen since 1933. While for most of its history, Meopta was behind the iron curtain until 1990. Meopta is now owned by an American family with production facilities in both the Czech Republic and the United States.

Meopta has big plan for the US market. That was what I have been told during my meeting with them at SHOT 2015. Meopta makes their optics in both their smaller US factory in the New York State and their main facility in the Czech Republic.

Meopta, the company founded in Prerov, Czechoslovakia, in 1933 by physics professor Dr. Alois Mazurek is coming out with a new premium binocular, the MeoStar HD. Up to 1992 Meopta focused on the production of military optical products, including a stretch from 1971 to 1989 where three-quarters of their business was dedicated to manufacturing products for Warsaw Pact countries. Today the company remains headquartered in Prerov, Czechoslovakia, but also has a facility in New York, and their production has gone global.

Continuing with the TFB coverage of Meopta products. In my opinion, Meopta produces some of the finest spotting scopes on the market with a great price-to-performance ratio. The Meopta products are premium Euro optics without the usual German-Austrian sticker shock. With the recently released American-made Meopta MeoPro 80 HD spotting scope, what Meopta is offering is essentially the performance of a $3,000+ top-end full-size spotting scope for half the money.

I am often asked by others what’s the best 1-4x tactical scope on the market. For me, one of the very under-rated 1-4x optics is the Meopta MeoTac ZD 1-4x22mm RD. On the high-end of their product lines, Meopta offers the optical performance that matches many well-known German and Austrian brands. Meopta is significantly more affordable and in some cases half the cost. The Meopta 1-4×22 tactical scope features the same German SCHOTT optical glass for their lenses.They are equal in many respects to Euro optics brands and of course Meopta products are built in Europe also, more specifically in the Czech Republic.
