Friday Night Lights: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly Of Civilian Lasers
Shooting with night vision is a lot of fun. One piece of equipment that makes shooting under NODs easy is a good laser. While there is a whole wide range of lasers to choose from, we will focus on three of the most popular lasers that are available for civilian use. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly refer to three civilian lasers. Let’s take a look at what they are.
Limited Edition MAWL-C1+ Laser from B.E. Meyers
B.E. Meyers is introducing a Limited Edition MAWL-C1+ in Olive Drab Green. They are running what they call a “restricted run of a widely requested color“, and it will only be available as long as the current inventory remains.
BE Meyers MAWL-X1 Adopted By D.O.D
If you recall, I reviewed the MAWL-C1+ back in March 2018. The MAWL-C1+ is the civilian rated version of the MAWL-DA (Direct Action). Well now BE Meyers just announced the adoption of their MAWL (Modular Advanced Weapon Laser) to the Department of Defense. The MAWL-X1 will be used for individual and crew served weapons.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: IR Illumination Is A Must For Night Vision
If you have been following along our Friday Night Lights series, night vision is a big part of seeing in the dark. While night vision is great at seeing in the dark, it does have its limitations. Night vision can only amplify light that is already there. While some night vision systems do a better job than others in some cases you need to compensate with some IR illumination.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: B.E. Meyers & Co. MAWL-C1+
In the world of night vision, most people use some sort of aiming device. While you can use a red dot sight, there are issues with getting helmet mounted NOD (night observation device) behind the optic to aim. So lasers are the key, specifically infrared lasers. B.E. Meyers has been making lasers for the military starting with the IZLID during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Well, they have taken their laser technology and developed the weapon mounted MAWL (modular advanced weapon laser). They make the Class III MAWL-DA which is restricted to military, government and law enforcement sales only. We were sent the civilian legal version, the Class I MAWL-C1+ for review.
French Special Forces GIGN go for 7,62×39 mm and MAWL-DA lasers from B.E Meyers
As you may know the French National Gendarmerie Intervention Group (GIGN) has ordered a new standard issue weapon, TFB reported about it earlier.
