The Battle of Mogadishu, also known as the Black Hawk Down incident, is a pivotal event in modern military history that took place in Somalia on October 3-4, 1993. This battle, part of Operation Gothic Serpent, was a mission aimed at capturing key lieutenants of Somali warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. As U.S. and coalition forces found themselves in an unexpected and intense firefight, they relied on a range of firearms and equipment to navigate the urban warfare environment.

Today’s POTD features a US Marine with the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division taking part in immediate action drills during exercise Platinum Ren at Fort Trondennes, Harstad, Norway, on May 13, 2019. Exercise Platinum Ren is a theater security cooperation training evolution held with the Norwegian KJK to sustain mission essential tasks in harsh operating environments and strengthen coalition partnerships. US Army Orders $180 Million-worth of M4s from Colt & FN
The Department of Defense has announced the purchase of $177,214,218 worth of M4 carbines with orders split equally between Colt and FN America. The orders were made on behalf of the US Army’s Contracting Command.
New Suppressors for Devil Dogs? USMC Releases RFI for Commercial Suppressors for M4, M27
Suppressor manufacturers, start your engines. The United States Marine Corps Systems Command (MARSYSCOM) has issued a new request for information (RFI) to the industry regarding future suppressors for the M4 and M4A1 Carbine and M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR). The request is intended to tap potential industry partners for future suppressor production, possibly in preparation for a new contract. The RFI’s requirements are, in the usual military fashion, detailed and stringent:
6th Marines to Test M27s in Tricked-Out "Uber Squad", but Are They Already Behind the Curve?
According to a Military.com article, an element of 1st Battalion, 6th Marines will be deploying a 13-man squad of Infantry fully equipped with M27 IARs, suppressors, drum magazines, and other pieces of experimental gear. Called the “Über Squad”, it will be chosen from companies within 1/6, and will use the gear through an entire workup, training, and deployment cycle to Europe. From Military.com:
