A Canadian man has been convicted in Vermont of smuggling 100 firearms across the US/Canadian border – through a library that straddles the border. The historic Haskell Library used for dead drops now has a much less salubrious claim to fame.

A UK gang that supplied criminals with illegally converted replica firearms has been jailed. The gang converted blank firing replicas, selling them on to local gangs. The gang of three were sentenced to a combined 52 years behind bars on 5th September.

Over the years many things have been traded for guns: gold, jewels, furs, and of course drugs. Well now goats can be added to the list as criminals in Jamaica are trading stolen goats for guns.

A Czech lorry/truck driver has been arrested by British police for attempting to smuggle a cache of illegal semi-automatic pistols into the UK from Europe. The suspect was arrested by UK Border Force officers in Killingholme, in Lincolnshire.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has directed his ministers to examine a full ban on handgun and ‘assault weapons’. The move comes in the wake of the recent Danforth shooting which saw 3 killed and 13 more injured. Trudeau has issued a mandate letter to Bill Blair, the minister for Border Security and Organised Crime Reduction Minister to work with colleagues to examine banning handguns.

Paraguayan news agencies have reported that thieves have stealthily stolen a large number of rifles from a National Police armoury, surreptitiously replacing them with replicas.

Police in Sussex, UK, raided a seemingly innocuous factory unit outside the small town of Hailsham. Three men have been arrested in connection with the raid for various firearms offences.

The Polish Prison Service has signed a contract to procure 350 semi automatic Beretta ARX160A3 carbines. These have been procured through a Polish company UMO. The Beretta reportedly beat out a number of other competitors to win the contract.

SIG Sauer have announced that Alabama’s Montgomery Police Department will be adopting the SIG P320 as their next official duty pistol. The department has over 500 officers, currently armed with Glocks. SIG have been enjoying a steady stream of law enforcement contracts of late, Montgomery PDs being the latest in a series including Virginia State Police,  Tampa PD,  Arkansas’ Jacksonville PD and the Texas Department for Public Safety.

The Virginia State Police look to be the latest in a string of recent law enforcement agencies to adopt the SIG Sauer P320 as their next sidearm. It follows recent contracts from police departments across the country including Tampa PD,  Arkansas’ Jacksonville PD and the Texas Department for Public Safety.

A new study published by the Small Arms Survey has estimated the number of firearms held by both military and law enforcement agencies around the world. The study estimates the total number of firearms owned by civilian, military and law enforcement agencies to be over 1 billion.

The US Border Patrol’s parent agency the US Customs and Border Protection have released a solicitation for a family of new 9x19mm striker-fired, semi-automatic pistols. On 2nd July, the Customs and Border Protection agency published a solicitation with a specific set of requirements for size and modularity.

Two of France’s national police forces the Police Nationale and the Gendarmerie Nationale are set to adopt the Heckler & Koch UMP. Following an request for information in 2017 a contract, worth 3.2 million Euros, will see the police and gendarmerie replace a plethora of older weapons.

Police in Alvarado, Mexico have been stripped of their firearms and issued slingshots and stones after most of the department failed competency tests. Of the department’s 130 officers only 30 passed the tests.

Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department has seized over 500 firearms from a resident in Agua Dulce, north of Los Angeles. The firearms seized include a large number of surplus military bolt actions, shotguns, and hunting rifles. More modern AR-15s and a large number of pistols were also found.
