BREAKING: Taser International changes Name Axon: Wants to be associated with Body Cameras not Weapons
Taser International has renamed themselves Axon. The Scottsdale, Arizona company, which has a monopoly on “projectile conductive energy devices” used by law enforcement worldwide, has decided to switch focus from arming law enforcement to monitoring them with their Axon line of Body Cameras and their Evidence.com subscription service for law enforcement organizations.
BYU Engineers Ballistic Shield for Law Enforcement with… ORIGAMI
Brigham Young University has taken a unique approach to solving a problem for law enforcement. Many departments seek to have protective barriers or shields available in their vehicles. Many are too heavy, too cumbersome, or flat out do not work. BYU has applied the principles of origami to make something truly original.
Plinker Dual Strike Pneumatic Targets
Plinker is an automated target company that is bringing to market a dual target system that can be swung into place and controlled off a electronic device. It works off of a pneumatic operated canister that propels the target frame into and out of place. The system is specifically designed for Law Enforcement application because it can replicate a Shoot-No Shoot scenario by first introducing a Shoot target with a firearm printed, and then introducing a No Shoot target with a hostage image printed on it. In addition, the system is really just a dual target holder, so it can really be used with any sort of target attached to frames that can be inserted into the target system. For an example anything fitting the dimensions of an IDPA target can be used if one wants to. From the description-
EMG: Kings of Tacticool & Incredibly Realistic Training Firearms | SHOT 2017
If you are at SHOT Show and ventured into the law enforcement section of the first floor, you likely came across Evike Manufacturing Group, EMG. They have amassed in one area probably the coolest collection of arms in all of SHOT Show. The only kicker is that they are all airsoft guns. So you cannot use anything they have as your next race gun or 3-Gun setup, but they are great training tools for law enforcement.

SIG SAUER Electro-Optic Chosen by Fort Collins PD
It’s a fantastic endorsement for any optics line, and it’s being given to SIG SAUER Electro-Optics: the Fort Collins, Colorado Police Department has chosen the company’s ROMEO4 for use on their duty weapons. SIG SAUER officially launched their Electro-Optics line at SHOT Show 2016 starting with a hands-on look at the optics at the start of that week during their invitation-only event during Industry Day at the Range. Having attended the event myself and also having had other opportunities with the optics I can attest to the fact that SIG SAUER made a solid leap into the optics world – something the gun world at large is well aware of at this point.

The National Institute of Justice, the research arm of the US Department of Justice, has released guidelines on the development of new “smart” handguns for law enforcement. Trigger Point Technology safety features
Trigger Point Technology is a company in California that was started by a certain Terry Abst, a former airline pilot. They have a very interesting and innovating device that they claim will help prevent negligent discharges primarily among Law Enforcement and Military users, but it can also be applied to all manner of civilian firearms. The company has a website up that attempts to explain things in detail, but as admitted by Terry, it needs some serious revamping and changing because if you go on it, you won’t understand what they are trying to get across. Initially I thought they had a trigger mounted magazine release, but after a lengthly phone call with them, I was able to acquire the straight dope.
Inspector General Report on M&P Pistols Out
Earlier this year, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department went to the county’s inspector general with concerns about the upward trend of negligent discharges that were happening withe the agency’s new sidearm: the Smith & Wesson M&P9. Earlier this month, the inspector general released its report.
Review:Lights, Sights, Lasers Course Overview
Recently, myself and three friends attended a course taught by Wes Doss called Lights, Sights, and Lasers Tour in Wabash, Indiana. We’ve blogged about the course before on TFB but this will be an in depth review of the course materials covered and the courses of fire. The course is completely free and offered to Law Enforcement officers and members of the Military, provided they are in an Active or Reserve capacity. Law Enforcement doesn’t just include the typical cops on the street, but also Bail Bondsmen, Federal Firearms certified pilots (we had a civilian airlines pilot that flew Airbus 330s for a living in the class), and other such jobs that fall under this category. Now, unfortunately, if you aren’t in one of these categories, you cannot take the course. But, certainly read this review because there is a vast amount of knowledge and different learning attitudes that you don’t have to take the course to contemplate about and understand. In addition, every bit of information learned in the course is completely applicable to civilian concealed carry, and general situational awareness at night. That being said, although the course is for LE/MIL, it is overwhelmingly directed at Law Enforcement. This is more than evident in the fact that most of the students in the class were police officers. In fact, apart from myself and two other Reserve friends (Army, Marine Corps) and the pilot, everyone was Law Enforcement.
TLR-1 stops .38 round at Point Blank
An officer with the Bensalem Township Police Department in North Carolina was possibly saved by the Streamlight TRL-1 mounted on his Glock stopping a .38 caliber round from a criminal’s revolver. Apparently two officers were searching a house, opened a small closest and the criminal pointed his revolver up at the officer and discharged a few rounds, one of them striking the lens of the TLR-1 and thus destroying it. For the angle shown, the officer must have had his Glock pointed directly at the criminal. The officers immediately retreated from the house, called for back up and a SWAT team entered the house and took everyone inside into custody, with one of the criminals committing suicide instead.
Duty To Inform
ConcealedNation.org posted an article that covers every state and whether you have a duty to inform law enforcement if you are carrying a firearm. This article comes after the plight of Brian Fletcher. A NC Tower Climber who was arrested in NJ for possessing a firearm.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol turns to SIG 320
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has selected the SIG Sauer P320 full size in 9mm as their new duty gun. I’m not sure what they had before, but from an overview of media pictures it appears that they formally had Glock 17s as standard issue with some officers with M&Ps probably personally bought. Either way, the Highway Patrol has joined a growing number of departments going with the Sig 320.
