POTD: Rapid Extraction with US and Swedish Marines
Photo Of The Day and we’re in the archipelago outside Stockholm, Sweden, with US and Swedish marines. Two machine guns on each side of the boat, ready to go live if needed. But take a good look at the weapons and sensors turret on top of the boat, that’s probably where the real magic is hidden.
POTD: Swedish Platoon 1990
In our Photo Of The Day, we go back in time. This photo was taken on October 13, 1990, some 32 years ago. We have a collection of firearms used by the Swedish Army at the time – some are still going strong – like the Ak4 (H&K G3), Grg m/48 (Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle 84 mm), Ksp m/58 (FN MAG) all gathered around an off-road vehicle Tgb 20. The Swedish platoon soldiers in the picture all have the green Uniform m/59. Note that most of the Ak4s have bayonets mounted and that one has a riflescope (made by Hensoldt possibly, to make an Ak4 DMR version). It was around this time the new Ak5 (FN FNC) was introduced to units.
POTD: U.S. & Swedish Marines in Exercise Archipelago Endeavor
In today’s Photo Of The Day, we offer an experience from Exercise Archipelago Endeavor. Above you see a Swedish Marine with the 204th Rifle Company, 2nd Marine Battalion, 1st Swedish Marine Regiment, providing security aboard a Combat Boat 90 near Berga Naval Base, Sweden, September 2021.
POTD: Traffic Control … Taken Seriously
Photo Of The Day – Most if not all pictures here have well-known backgrounds and sources but this is an exception. We look at Military Police, most likely from Sweden. Note the “MP” in white on their helmets. The uniforms are model 59. They all carry the 9 mm Carl Gustaf M/45 submachine gun. Perhaps the picture dates from the 1970s, or might it be even earlier? It looks like they took traffic control very seriously back then.
POTD: Swedish Marines in "Archipelago Endeavor" Exercise
Photo Of The Day – and we’re kicking off with a KSP58 Machine Gun in the hands of a Swedish Marine above. This machine gun has been in use by the Swedish Armed Forces since 1958 and is essentially an FN Herstal MAG. The gun is chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO.
POTD: Swedish Paratroopers in Mud Bath
In 1952 the Swedish Parachute Ranger School was created. Today they host the Parachute Rangers and the Special Operations Group. As you can imagine the focus is to use small and specialized Ranger units which are capable of operating deep behind enemy lines and inside the enemy-controlled territory. Their motto is “Will, Courage and Perseverance”.
POTD: French Aerial Door Gunner
Photo Of The Day: Looking for moments where a photographer captures soldiers and their firearms in interesting situations or places on the Earth? Look no further, here is another dose of TFB’s daily articles where you will find just that. Today we’re looking at a French Aerial Door Gunner during a flight over Mali.
