The hand stop or indexer is a popular aftermarket piece that many AR-15 users choose to run for one reason or another. I have recently used several of them to serve as a direct indexing point so that my light and IR illuminator combo is always where I expect them to be. Other people use them as a great way to bring their hand to the same place on the rifle every time so that their grip is consistent for competition purposes.
