Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This weekly series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its various firearms, sports, ammunition, and trends. Last week we talked about the oddball Magnum Research Mountain Eagle 22LR pistol. The Mountain Eagle is an interesting piece and kind of blends in the best of worth worlds between high capacity, and lightweight design. The Mountain Eagle in my opinion might have been a little ahead of its time but unfortunately never really took off and was eventually discontinued by Magnum Research. Speaking of new things, the subject of this week is Norma’s relatively new Eco Power and Eco Speed lead-free 22LR ammunition. Today we’ll explore how they perform in a number of tests to give you guys a read on whether this ammunition might suit any of your rimfire needs.

Do you hunt with the 6.5 Creedmooror or the .223 Remington? Good news for you as Lapua just presented new hunting ammunition that will hit the shelves in the summer. The .223 Rem is loaded with a 3.2 g / 50 gr Lapua Naturalis hunting bullet and the 6.5 mm has a 10.1 g / 156 gr Soft Point MEGA projectile. The first one comes with a mushrooming effect for varmit hunting and the latter is designed for the deer hunter.

With the hunting season underway, now is when hunters are on the lookout for the latest and greatest in hunting ammunition.  As the popularity of the AR-15 platform continues to grow it continues to see more widespread use in the hunting community. The 223 chamberings are effective for varmints but lack the sought after knockdown power.  The AR platform has seen a slew of new cartridge offerings, but none as storied as the .458 SOCOM.

In one of their recent press releases, SIG Sauer announced the addition of SIG HT hunting 6.5mm Creedmoor loads to their Elite Performance ammunition line. Particularly, they are now offering 6.5 CM Elite Performance cartridges loaded with 120 grain solid copper bullets.
