Hello again TFB, and welcome to the second part of a series titled “Love, Grandpa Fudd.” In this series (okay two articles), with input from you readers, the TFB staff, and the sometimes-helpful TFB Discord, we’ll be tackling some of the most pernicious Fuddlore that still rears its ugly head. EAA/Akkar has just revamped their popular Akkar Churchill 220 and 620 shotguns for home defense. TFB DEBATE CLUB: The AR-15 For Home Defense – Point/Counterpoint

Welcome to The TFB Debate Club Dodecahedron – where two humans fight to the death in honor of Earth’s magnificence. Actually, it more like two middle school kids arguing over who is the NFL’s best quarterback. With the lack of presidential debates looming over the smoldering remains of the election season, we thought it might be fun to put our own people center stage for a bit of friendly discourse. This week Luke and Doug square off on a common debate topic: should you pick the AR-15 for home defense?

Rifle Sling Positions: Slung, Carry, Ready and Weapons Flow

While it may not be the sexiest topic, the way you manipulate and move with your firearm are huge tells of your experience level. It all comes down to what Varg Freeborn refers to as advanced safety. This is more than simply keeping your finger off the trigger and not pointing guns at people. Having practiced sling positions that you can readily transition between will not only help you move in a safe manner with the firearm, but it will also help you get on target more readily. While ready, carry and slung positions are beneficial to square range work, they are essential to truly fight with a rifle.

Best AR Pistol Caliber For Home Defense

Often times, I get questions from people about what would be the best caliber for ARs in the home. Typically, a handgun with some sort of flashlight or light/laser combo will be a better option since it’s easier to move with a handgun than with a large rifle. Handguns also give you a free hand if you have to grab your child and move them to safety.

Here's Why I Think Overpenetration Is Fudd Nonsense

In almost any gun store or forum, you can find someone who can’t wait to give you unsolicited information. A lot of the “advice” that Over Eager Jerry likes to “share” with you is stuff that has been repeated ad nauseam in gun circles, but it isn’t always backed up by facts. For example, they might soberly warn you against choosing a modern sporting rifle, hand loads, NFA devices, or other scary things for defense because an “overzealous prosecutor” will get you locked up. I swear they read this shit from a script. It’s the sort of urban legend that sounds plausible on the surface so people just accept and repeat it without any sort of critical thinking. No one has ever been locked up for using a scary, but a legal gun.

First Firearm: Considerations For Your First Handgun For Home Defense

Welcome to the first installment of First Firearm series. We’re starting off in a slightly predictable way with considerations for your first Home Defense (HD) handgun. However, for those that aren’t ready or able to jump into concealed carry, having the ability to protect one’s self in their castle is a reasonable place to start gun ownership. I couldn’t even count the number of bumps in the night my wife or I have woken up to and felt the need to investigate. I imagine others have had such rude awakenings at some point in their life. One doesn’t need to look too deep in a newspaper or watch much nightly news to understand that break-ins are a thing.

The "Best" Home Defense Gun

If you’re a gun guy, odds are pretty good that non-gun people often ask your opinion on things. At least, People often make the mistake of asking my opinion, anyway. I guess they figure that just because I write about and make videos about guns, that my opinion is worth listening to. Of course you, dear reader, know that my opinion is worth every cent you paid for it. Still, I should probably indulge these poor, misguided souls. To that end, I’m going to answer some of these more common questions in a series of articles. Today, we’re going to cover the ever popular “best” home defense gun.

Long Gun vs. Handgun in Home Defense – Maneuverability Differences Overblown

It used to be conventional wisdom to have a 12 gauge at the ready for self defense. Then, slowly, the tactical world fell back in love with the handgun under the guides of manoeuvrability within the home. The thinking was that the handgun, being a smaller package, was better for one to clear their home. Combined with the higher capacity and ease of reloading, the handgun, was per thinking, the easier to use weapon.
