The Henry Big Boy lever action rifle is a model that has deservedly gained a pretty positive reputation for not just being reliable, accurate, and durable, but also just plain fun to shoot. Henry makes these classic lever actions available in nearly all of the common straight-walled cartridges ranging from .357 Magnum all the way up to .44 Magnum. What is perhaps best about the Henry Big Boy series of lever guns is simply their value. Most of these lever guns can be had for about $900 or less and you’re getting an amazing combination of quality construction and reliability in a proven platform. Last week we covered a little bit of long-range 22LR shooting news, talking about the maximum “reliable” range you can actually shoot 22LR out to. Personally, having participated in Rimfire PRS matches with a variety of rifles, 700-yards does seem a bit far for maintaining practical accuracy with such an anemic cartridge but like many of you probably saw in the video, you can still kind of get in the general vicinity of your target at those ranges but landing a shot even on a large 2×2′ steel plate is a dice roll, even with a very calculated shot. This week we’re jumping back into a review of a classic – the Henry Classic Lever Action 22LR Rifle.

In a year when a lot of semiauto manufacturers are coming out with mag fed lever guns, lever gun veterans Henry Repeating Arms ironically made the opposite move at SHOT Show 2023 Industry Day at the Range: They brought an ambidextrous 9mm semiautomatic carbine. The new Henry Homesteader 9mm 16 inch barreled carbine with ghost ring sights, a traditional wooden stock, and the provision to mount an optic on the receiver.

Many here will be very familiar with Henry Repeating Arms’ line of Golden Boy rifles. The Golden Boy rifle is a .22 S/L/LR, .22 Mag, and .17 HMR lever action rifle which is most well known for its octagonal barrels, smooth action, and historic authenticity within the realm of lever-action rifles. Today Henry has announced the official launch date for their new limited-edition Silver Anniversary rifles to celebrate the culmination of their 25th anniversary and all of the proceeds will go to benefit Children’s Hospitals, military organizations, and first responder organizations.
