NEW PHOTOS: US Army Testing New Squad DMR at Fort Bliss

The US Army has released some photographs taken at Fort Bliss, Texas, during testing of the Army’s new Squad Designated Marksman Rifle (SDM-R). The new 7.62x51mm rifle from Heckler & Koch has not yet officially been fielded and testing and tweaking continues.

When we think of Heckler & Koch in the 1980s we think of the famous G11, the iconic HK MP5 and the stylish P7 pistol. One rifle we don’t tend to think of is the G41, a 5.56x45mm chambered rifle designed to meet NATO’s new requirements. HK hoped the new rifle would be a hit with NATO countries looking to make the transition from 7.62x51mm to 5.56x45mm. Their hopes, however, were dashed and sales proved to be sluggish leading to the G41 to be one of HK’s lesser-known offerings and the company’s last roller-delayed blowback infantry rifle.

[SHOT 2019] SB Tactical MP5 HKPDW Brace

UK Award Heckler & Koch $95 million Contract For SA80 Rifle Upgrade

The British Army is set to receive up to 44,000 upgraded L85A3/SA80A3s over the next four to five years. Jane’s 360 Infantry Weapons reports that the UK Ministry of Defence are moving forward with a large contract with Heckler & Koch to upgrade a substantial number of L85A2 rifles.

Lithuania Orders More HK G36s

The Lithuanian Army is set to procure a further batch of upgraded Heckler & Koch G36 rifles, along with a number of ambidextrous grenade launchers in a contract worth 11 million Euros ($12.6 million). Lithuania adopted the G36 in 2007, and despite the overheating and melting issues suffered by Bundeswehr rifles, in 2016 they restarted procurement of G36s following their own testing.
