Many of you will be familiar with the online retailer of law enforcement, military, and public safety gear, Botach. They sell everything from knives, ballistic gear, firearms, ammunition, and less lethal personal defense items. Botach was originally founded in the city of Los Angeles over 20 years ago and late in May of 2022, they announced that they had opened up their first retail store in the Las Vegas area that will also be open to the public.

2020 was a year of record gun sales, and that trend appears to be continuing in 2021. Many of those guns were purchased by first-time gun owners. The gun industry tends to assume that their customers already know the ins and outs of the world of guns. In the interest of education, here are some pointers on gun store etiquette.

One day as you walk into your local gun store you see a Help Wanted sign. You’re struck with the idea of working a gun counter. What is it really like? Well, here is one man’s opinion based on his years at a local gun store. While keeping in mind that no one person’s experience is truly authoritative and that stores range from small shops to large corporations with a variety of company cultures, here is an unvarnished look at what it is like to work behind a gun counter.

Many of us remember the ammo shortage of the early 00s with a combination of horror and perverse pleasure. If you happened to be one of those gun owners with a pre-existing ammunition stash so spectacular it rivaled the warehouse of a major manufacturer, it wasn’t so bad. If you happened to be one of those gun owners who just grabbed a box or two of ammunition when the urge to sling lead down-range hit, well, it was a bit worse. So here’s the question – and it’s a fitting one considering the fact that this is an election year – was the ammo rush and shortage drive by sales, hoarding, or a manufacturing shortage? (Or is there perhaps some other factor?)

I have managed and worked in a retail firearms store now for 6+ years and sometimes catch myself believing that I’ve seen and heard everything. Yet my customers continue to surprise me in unique and odd ways everyday. So to ensure you don’t come across as a greenhorn the next time you stop into a gun store, here is my list of 10 Things NOT to do in a Gun Store.

As part of my road trip to Louisiana, I also stopped by Lexington, Kentucky. There I bought a pistol but in the conversation with the seller, he pointed out that Bud’s Gunshop is located in Lexington. So of course I had to pay them a visit. Buds Gunshop is a little notorious on the internet, some loving it, and some hating it because of bad transactions. Either way you look at it, the shop does have a good presence online that not many other individual shops have. The website lists over a million customers since 2003 as per their customer counter. So here’s a little preview of the physical location!
