Pushing both rimefire rounds and a selection of centerfire rounds, the new Griffin Armament Optimus Micro is one of the most diverse silencers on the market. Light enough to perform on the end of a .22lr rifle and stout enough to withstand 5.56mm punishment, the Micro is made of 100% stainless steel and weighs in at just 8.5 ounces.

Griffin Armament announced the company re-engineered its Revolution Silencer Series to add “a lot of versatility and high pressure caliber application.” The Mod3 Revolution Series sound suppressors are now rated for use with 7.62×39, 300 BLK subsonic and 5.56 NATO for hunting applications.

Ah, the final days of a very TFB Christmas are upon us. And what better way of keeping those silent nights (or days, afternoons, anytime really) actually silent then by gifting yourself a quality pistol suppressor. Lucky for you, or whomever is buying your gift, the market is especially rich with options at the moment.

Griffin Armament has been making quite a splash moving through the market outside their well-regarded suppressors. Previously, they released AR furniture and in October, released their HEDP ( High Endurance, Dual Purpose) series of barrels. Now, they’ve set their sights on… sights! Griffin Armament has announced their latest offering, the Micro Modular Sights(TM), referred to as the M2 sights.

There is a mental and physical checklist that shooters should run through before running their rifle suppressed. First off, do you have a suppressor? Great, one major hurdle down. Next in line should be preparing your host weapon for its new role as a silenced blaster. Concentric muzzle threading and for the Ar15 platform, proper gas mitigation is at the top of the list. Supppressor manufacturer Griffin Armament has solved these issues and more with the release of their HEDP suppressor-ready barrels.

Dustin Ellermann’s suppressed Henry Big Boy Steel Carbine is nothing short of a thing of beauty. Dustin had Bullworks in Amarillo, TX modify the lever gun by threading the muzzle to accept a 1/2×28 3 lug mount from Griffin Armament, milling the front sight back a touch for clearance, and I am sure they slicked the action up a bit as well. Dustin says he didn’t have to run taller sights on the rifle thanks to the low profile Revolution 9mm suppressor that he used.

Down at Big 3 East, last March, IWI USA VP Mike Kassnar, set aside fifty X95s for the writers in attendance. I eagerly jumped at the opportunity to get my hands on the X95 for review. I have only had a little trigger time behind the older Tavor SAR. I recall one of my earliest experiences was with an 18″ FDE Tavor that someone got and he put a QD Gemtech suppressor on it. It had a Mepro sight and we were hitting steel off hand at 200 yards with ease. However when it was suppressed, there was a significant amount of gas to the face. I was perplexed. The Tavor has a long stroke gas piston operation. I was under the impression that was one of the benefits of shooting a piston operated gun as there would be less gas returning into the chamber and thus less gas to the face. I was wrong. There are a few companies that make gaskets to further block the gas escaping from the factory blocked left side ejection port. Such as Manticore Arms’ Port Cover and Gear Head Works FLEx Swivel.

In part one and part two of the beginner’s series we walked you through the process of researching, buying and finally transferring a new suppressor from a dealer. We even gave you assignments along the way, like getting barrels threaded, buying a booster or picking out muzzle devices. So, let’s fast forward four to six (six to nine?) months when your paperwork comes back approved and start talking about the fun stuff: suppressor ownership and shooting suppressed weapons. Chances are that once you experience the world of suppressors, you won’t be able to go back to your old (loud) ways.

So, you have always wanted a suppressor but figured that they were too expensive or the paperwork wasn’t worth your time. Or, you never considered owning a silencer until your idiot brother-in-law spun that monster brake/compensator on his AR at the range last week. Fear not, we are going to hold your hand through the process of researching, buying and owning suppressors. It really is pretty simple.
