iVUE is an eyewear company that produces sunglasses that have an integrated camera system in the bridge of the frame and can record 1080p footage at the press of a button. The company has been around for several years now and customer videos using their products have been on Youtube in that time as well. Although I’m singling out iVUE because they are the only eyewear camera product that has seen extensive usage in the shooting sports, there are a multitude of eyewear products out there that can do the same, if not a better job of capturing what appears to be the best “First Person” angle footage we have seen. Previously this sort of footage is reserved to helmet cameras such as the Contour, GoPro head kits, and even body cameras as worn by many Law Enforcement officers these days. All of these are good pieces of kit, but sometimes they don’t get that true first person footage that we are constantly striving for, to see pretty much what that person was seeing while they were taking the footage.

Last year at SHOT we covered a company producing a different type of action camera–MOHOC. What is better about these cameras, in my opinion, is that they are not only more discreet than the GoPros that we are all familiar with, but they are inherently more rugged. You don’t need extra accessories to get a water/drop proof camera.

SIDEKICK is a GoPro camera mount, which directly mounts on Picatinny rails. It is compatible with GoPro HERO and HERO5 Session cameras. It is made of aircraft grade aluminum and is very lightweight. With the camera installed the assembly weighs only 4.3oz.

Expanding from his myriad capabilities as a trickshooter, 22Plinkster has been evaluating what the .22LR can really do. He’s had a great series of videos looking at the formal penetration of the 22 through drywall (which is surprisingly dangerous, using drywall as a measure).

The footage is a little bit washed out and you don’t really see that much. A U.S. Special Forces Operative is working with Afhan National Army soldiers. I am not sure how ABC news knows this is the Raid on El Chapo but it is certainly not GoPro nor is it raw footage. First you can see that the video is edited from different cameras. The shaky camera is actualy a Contour camera attached to the side of one of the guy’s helmets. He does not appear to be shaking at all so I think his Contour is on the fritz.

When I was told I would be reviewing an action camera I was a little confused, being a firearm blog I am not really used to seeing electronics come up for review. After I got the Replay Prime X action camera in I understood why they chose to send us one for evaluation.

Not content to let GoPro continue to dominate the action-camera market, Midland has upped its game with its latest release including Wi-Fi to allow the user to start and stop footage. Further, with the appropriate new application on your phone, you can view, review, and edit footage in real-time.

FullMag tests the new, smaller GoPro Session by destructively testing an existing GoPro Hero Black using a bullet nearly the same size as the camera itself, a .45-70. The new camera has excellent picture, but the old one… is disintegrated.

Here is an interesting idea for video capturing firearm manipulation. Most people use a Contour on their earpro or a GoPro mounted on their headstrap.

As an alternative to the GoPro Sportsman Mount, Choate Machine & Tool has made their own GoPro mount. It is machined aluminum. It uses a simple steel barrel mount to attach the GoPro mount to a barrel or magazine tube.

Violent Little Machine Shop has come out with a low profile GoPro mount for molle. It retails for only $29.95 and is CNC out of aluminum. It weighs only 16 grams.

GoPro finally has a mount for the hunting/fishing enthusiast. The Sportsman Mount. It retails for $69.99. It is designed to clamp onto the barrel of Shotguns or Rifles. It can also mount onto fishing rods and bows.
