GUNSMARTS Series 2 Launched by Smith & Wesson
There are more new gun owners than ever running around these days and while many of them are being trained by their friends and family, there are probably still many people out there who are in serious need of basic firearms instruction as well as navigating their own path through firearms ownership. Smith & Wesson released their GUNSMARTS Series a little less than a year ago and the show is hosted by my good friend Ken Scott. Smith & Wesson and crew are back with GUNSMARTS Series 2 which includes slightly more complex subject matter like how to join a gun range, firearms familiarization, gunshop etiquette and even dispelling some myths of gun ownership.

OutWest Systems recently debuted their SharpShot EZ-Trainer Marksmanship Training System. It’s a laser based training system that includes a target holding box that works with a standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper target and a smartphone/tablet app. To use the SharpShot EZ-Trainer you’ll need to also use one of the various laser training devices on the market such as the SIRT, Laser Shot, LaserLyte or Laser-Ammo units. To use the trainer just fire up the app and start shooting, your hits will be shown on a virtual target on your phone or tablet and you’ll also get verbal reports on your hit locations.

The Glock E-Trainer For Dry Fire Practice
If you’re not doing dry fire training you really should give it a try, it’s a great way to help you become a much better shooter without having to go to the range. I try to get in some dry fire trigger time almost daily. The only downside of dry fire training is having to constantly re-rack your slide after every trigger pull in order to reset the trigger. It interrupts your flow and becomes tedious after a while. Well the folks over at glocketrainer.com have come up with a simple yet clever solution.
UK MoD Armed Police Failed to Meet Training Standards
It has emerged that the UK’s Ministry of Defence Police have failed to meet firearms training standards. The specialist non-military police force is tasked with protecting sites of national importance such as the Royal Navy’s base at Faslane, Scotland – the home of Britain’s Trident nuclear arsenal.
Firearms Food for Thought: Positioning Shooting Prone
In order to be a successful long-range shooter you must take a number of factors into consideration. From windage to optics to understanding the capabilities and limitations of your caliber of choice and everything in between, you’d better have it all covered. Of course, certain techniques seem to be a matter of preference. One I’ve noticed at a number of long-range events as well as on hunts has to do with positioning: shooting prone with the shooter’s body in a straight line or angled. Which one is right?
