The 10th Day of TFB's 12 Days of Christmas: Training & Safety Gear
Guns sure are great! But they’re also supremely dangerous and that’s why it’s important to always be properly trained and to have the correct safety gear available to you whenever possible. One of the best investments you can make for yourself or for a friend is with firearms training classes. Whether that means it’s your first basic pistol or carbine course or a more advanced counter-sniper course, training often pays back in dividends more than any other firearms-related purchase out there. Safety gear, like hearing protection is another area of purchasing that can both enhance your training and pay off further down the road (you know, when you still have your hearing). So if you don’t want to have your grandchildren screaming in your ear next year to tell you what they want from Santa for Christmas, maybe it’s time to invest in a new pair of hearing protection. Today we’ll be covering some basic training and safety gear to keep you on target and out of harm’s way. Just ask this guy how important training at home is (profanity warning):
GUNSMARTS Series 2 Launched by Smith & Wesson
There are more new gun owners than ever running around these days and while many of them are being trained by their friends and family, there are probably still many people out there who are in serious need of basic firearms instruction as well as navigating their own path through firearms ownership. Smith & Wesson released their GUNSMARTS Series a little less than a year ago and the show is hosted by my good friend Ken Scott. Smith & Wesson and crew are back with GUNSMARTS Series 2 which includes slightly more complex subject matter like how to join a gun range, firearms familiarization, gunshop etiquette and even dispelling some myths of gun ownership.
Firearms Accidents Have Reached an All-Time Low
The NSSF just announced on their website that unintentional firearms fatalities have reached their lowest point ever since record-keeping began in 1903. According to the latest available data derived from the National Safety Council which just released its Injury Facts Report 2018 firearms accidents – specifically unintentional firearms deaths, accounted for less than 1% of unintentional fatalities from all principal causes.
Why EVERYONE Should Learn How To Handle a Firearm
It’s no surprise to gun owners that firearms have become a taboo subject, and as such, they are shunned and avoided to the point that few people know how to handle a firearm safely. Despite the avoidance and shunning by those that don’t want to handle a gun, some of them may have to handle one anyway at some point in their life. The necessity may come from finding a firearm in a taxi, or finding a gun on a playground, or even as a police officer handling a gun from a crime scene.
French Presidential Palace Guard Wounded in Apparent Negligent Discharge

Trigger Point Technology safety features
Trigger Point Technology is a company in California that was started by a certain Terry Abst, a former airline pilot. They have a very interesting and innovating device that they claim will help prevent negligent discharges primarily among Law Enforcement and Military users, but it can also be applied to all manner of civilian firearms. The company has a website up that attempts to explain things in detail, but as admitted by Terry, it needs some serious revamping and changing because if you go on it, you won’t understand what they are trying to get across. Initially I thought they had a trigger mounted magazine release, but after a lengthly phone call with them, I was able to acquire the straight dope.
Winchester SXP Faulty Firing Pin Video and Recall
This video was recently uploaded to YouTube, it shows the owner of a new Winchester SXP Shotgun emphasizing just how important it is to practice firearms safety and to never simply rely on your guns safety button, that’s because his new SXP fires a round when he closes the action with the safety on.
