POTD: VIS-a-VIS

Today’s Photo Of The Day is a picture by Tactical Imports Corporation (Canada) showing two Polish FB “Łucznik” Radom 9mm pistols – the VIS 35 and VIS 100M1. The former was designed in 1930 and adopted by the Polish Army in 1936. The latter, VIS 100M1, is the civilian version of the VIS 100 pistol which was adopted by the Polish Army in 2019. The VIS 100M1 has recently crossed the pond and is now available in the USA and Canada.

Incredible Polish Radom Collection at NRA 2016 (RARE Guns!)

Do you like history? Do you like Poland? Do you sing the lyrics to “40:1” in the shower when no one’s around? Then boy have I got a treat for you! At the 2016 National Rifle Association Annual Meeting, there were more than just companies showing off their wares; there was an entire section for collectors, as well. One of the booths that caught my eye (you’ll see exactly why in a minute) was that of the Virginia Gun Collectors Association, which was showing off the largest Radom Vis pistol collection in the United States:

Polish Army to Purchase First MSBS Rifles This Week

The Polish government is expected to have signed a contract Wednesday for the first MSBS rifles, specifically for the MSBS-R variant, which will replace the venerable Russian SKS rifle in ceremonial/guard units. The MSBS-R will be the first indigenous design to be adopted by the Polish honor guards ever, and if adopted by the regular Army, and, if adopted for general issue, the first in the Polish general army, as well. Taking a Closer Look At the Differences Between the ACR and the MSBS

Since the announcement that Fabryka Broni is seeking to import the MSBS modular rifle into the United States civilian market, there has been a great deal of discussion about the relationship of the MSBS to the Remington ACR or Magpul Masada. The two rifles are very similar, similar enough that I’ve previously referred to the MSBS as a “Masada derivative”, but I wanted to take a closer look. Therefore, at the 2016 SHOT Show, I took a look inside both rifles, to compare their similarities and contrast their differences. I found that, while there are conspicuous similarities that previously led me to believe the MSBS is a Masada derivative, there are also a great deal of subtle differences that suggest more convergent development based on similar requirements and design philosophy – and likely cross-pollination of a few ideas –  than the Fabryka Broni team picking up where Magpul left off.

[SHOT 2016 Range Day] Fabryka Broni MSBS 556K

Though I didn’t get to shoot the fabled bullpup version of the FB MSBS 556, I did get to shoot the FB MSBS 556K at SHOT 2016 Range Day. Drawing largely from the Magpul Masada, the version of the FB MSBS 556 that I got to shoot was the conventional model, or K model. With an EoTech red dot, I was able to hit steel targets out to 200 yards with ease. My reloads were slightly faster then with a standard Ar-15, however, if I was using a Magpul B.A.D lever equipped Ar-15, my reloads would be identical in speed.

Both assault and designated marksman rifle variants are planned, with the rifles reportedly being ready for showing in Fall of 2016 at the International Defense Industry Exhibition MSPO. Altair.com reports (below is a somewhat rocky machine translation of the original Polish, Polish readers should follow the link and read it in its original form):

SADJ On Poland's MSBS Radon Rifle

The Small Arms Defense Journal website have published an article written by Leszek Erenfeicht describing the history and function of the MSBS Radon rifle, one of the major dark horses of 21st Century rifle designs. The Radon was designed from a clean sheet, ignoring previous Polish developments and attempting to draw from the best industry knowledge available. The rifle began as a collation of “good ideas” and was refined through hard work by the folks at Radon into something very much its own:
