The current trend in every day carry (EDC) pistols is definitely leaning towards the ‘smaller is better’ philosophy. Every major manufacturer has spent the last five years designing small, thin, and lightweight pistols that have all of the features of their full-size counterparts. Wilson Combat is continuing this industry march towards a small footprint with the addition of the subcompact EDC X9 9mm pistol. The concept of having the primary weapon and sidearm chambered in the same caliber was probably pioneered or at least popularized in the American Old West where carbines like Winchester Model 1873 were often carried with handguns like the Colt SAA chambered in the same caliber. To me, this concept is still viable and one of the primary reasons I would ever opt for a PCC over a rifle is the compatibility with the ammunition and magazines used in my handgun. For those of you who are Wilson Combat brand aficionados, you can now have a perfect companion for your EDC X9 pistol because the company has just introduced the AR9X, a new sub-series of their AR9 9mm firearms that is compatible with EDC X9 magazines.

In celebration of the company’s 40th anniversary, Wilson Combat has released a beautiful cased set consisting of two handguns, a knife, and two challenge coins. Let’s take a look at each of the items included in this set.

Recently, my local FFL and Range held a Range Demo Day featuring products from Wilson Combat, Silencerco, Heckler & Koch, Blue Bullets, and Vortex Optics.  I was Volunteering my time for the most part, but got to try some products at the end of the day.  One of the most anticipated products at the range day was Wilson Combat’s relatively new EDC X9 double stack 9mm 1911, and I was very excited to try it out.

We are still fresh into 2017 and it is shaping up to be the year of the pistol. An anonymous source has revealed that Wilson Combat will be releasing a new 4″ alloy 1911 that takes double stack magazines. Dubbed the EDC X9, the new model won’t use STI/SVI 2011 magazines. Instead Wilson’s new handgun will accept 18 round magazines similar to the MecGar’s for the Beretta 92.
