Imagine loading your M2 Browning .50 caliber heavy machine gun, as you hear the rotors of the heavy CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter increase in intensity as you take off above the South China Sea. You’re the door gunner! Sometimes it might be worth getting enlisted after all?
POTD: French Airborne .50 BMG Power – Hecate 2 Long-Range Rifle
Photo Of The Day: Airborne sniping is a special thing and probably one of the most difficult tasks for any target shooter. Here we’re looking at the power of the 12.7x99mm round (.50 BMG) in the Hécate 2 Long-range anti-material rifle made by PGM Precision in France. Note the rather large suppressor and the arm that supports the rifle.
POTD: Swiss Helicopter Kommando Spezialkrafte (KSK)
Photo Of The Day: As promised we’re back with more Swiss Special Forces, Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK), and here we can see them monitoring the environment from a helicopter. The door gunner is from the military police special detachment (MP Spez Det) and the picture was taken back in 2017.

Japan, the land of sushi, ninjas and volcanos. Here we are at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, looking at Aerial Sniper Training. In our Photo Of The Day, we have U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Ryan Lauritsen, a scout sniper with 3d Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment, engaging a target during aerial sniper training.
POTD: M3M Door Gunner in the NHIndustries NH90
In each of our Photo Of The Day articles, we bring you the work of great and inspiring photographers from around the globe. Today we’re taking a closer look at a German door gunner with an M3M Heavy Machine Gun made by FN Herstal. The NHIndustries NH90 is a medium-sized battlefield helicopter. It is made by NHIndustries, which is a collaboration between Airbus Helicopters, Leonardo and Fokker Aerostructures. The NH90 is used in many missions by the German Bundeswehr and here we see it doing training in Putlos, Northern Germany.
