The 2007 movie “3:10 to Yuma” is a modern remake of the 1957 film of the same name, which was based on a short story by Elmore Leonard. Directed by James Mangold, the film is a gripping Western that follows the story of a struggling rancher named Dan Evans (played by Christian Bale) who agrees to escort the notorious outlaw Ben Wade (played by Russell Crowe) to the town of Contention, where he will board the 3:10 train to Yuma Prison.
Wild West Auction Includes Colt Revolver that Killed Billy the Kid
The Wild West era holds a special place in the hearts of many firearms enthusiasts. Plenty of shooters today grew up with figures of cowboys, sheriffs, and outlaws on horseback with lever-action rifles and classic revolvers. What would American firearms history be without the image of two spur-wearing duelists in a dusty street at high noon, hands hovering nervously over the Colt Peacemakers on their hips? Particularly given Hollywood’s canonization of frontier gunslingers, with iconic portrayals by actors like John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and Robert Duvall, guns of the mid-late 1800s can be exceedingly nostalgic.
Theodore Roosevelt's Colt Single Action Army Sold at Rock Island Auction
On October 14, 1912, Theodore Roosevelt was shot while giving a speech to a crowd in Milwaukee. In a move that secures his place in history as one of the most badass presidents of all time, he declined medical treatment. Instead, he finished his 90-minute speech, bloody shirt and all. Ten days prior to this event, a gift was sent to good ol’ Teddy for his 54th birthday. The gift was a factory engraved Colt Single Action Army revolver. Roosevelt’s Colt recently sold at December 2020 Rock Island Premier Firearms Auction which the company called “The Sale of the Century”.
