Kalashnikov Concern and Tula Cartridge Plant have developed a new intermediate cartridge called 6.02×41 and two rifles chambered in it – Mini SVCh and AK-22. The 6.02×41 is designed to replace both the 7.62×39 and 5.45×39 cartridges in the Russian military service. This joint project started in 2020 and apparently was just unclassified with the publishing of the Russian patent (RU2809501C1) protecting the design of the cartridge.  Kalashnikov Gun Magazine were the first to report about this program.

The Chukavin Sniper Rifle (SVCh) is a DMR that was designed to replace the venerable SVD in the Russian military. We have covered the life of this rifle from its development history to its adventures in  Russian military trials. Today, we’ll tell you about another event in this rifle’s life: Kalashnikov Concern has introduced the limited edition civilian version of SVCh rifle called MR1.

Back in 2016, Kalashnikov Concern officially introduced the SVCh Chukavin Sniper Rifle (Снайперская Винтовка Чукавина – СВЧ) which was initially called  SVK. The gun was designed to replace the venerable SVD Dragunov Sniper Rifle, however, up until now, there was no information concerning in what scale and when it is planned to be supplied to the Russian military. In an interview given to Russian news agency RIA Novosti, Sergey Urzhumtsev, the chief engineer of Kalashnikov Concern, told that within the next two years, they will start the mass production of SVCh rifles which will be delivered to regiments throughout the Russian military.

This rifle was earlier announced by the Kalashnikov Concern. It was initially called SVK. Recently, Kalashnikov has renamed the rifle to include the designer’s last name (Chukavin) into the designation of this firearm and revealed more details. Now the rifle is called Chukavin Sniper Rifle or SVCh (Снайперская Винтовка Чукавина – СВЧ). Here is a video released by the Kalashnikov Concern:
